Surfers and Hang Pilots are Brothers (at least cousins)

What does surfing have in common with hang gliding? - fluid dynamics and nature. Sure, our medium is a little bit thinner and our animals have gotten increasingly smaller since the Cretaceous Period, but we are both into the same thing - melding our bodies and minds into the wave that takes higher and farther than anyone else. Yes, we get competitive too. But, that is not the central concern. The eagles we accompany in lazy arcs with and the smell of orange blossom thermals in Florida and unworldly vistas between the clouds is what it's all about. Cross training is good too for the body and mind. It promotes seeing the connection of all things and hang gliding could use the women. So, these are all good reasons why surfers should take a full day (yes, 8 hours) lesson. It may just be the complement you have been looking for.

Growing up in San Diego...
I had a few friends that hang glided (hung glid?) off Torrey Pines...
There are less of them now...
Both because of hang gliding...
And other choices...
None of them died from surfing tho...
Don't get me wrong...
I'm all for you hang gliding.

I'm sure that was ages ago, when the sport, in its infancy, accepted the enthusiastically naive with no requirements for programs of authentic instruction. So people would have accidents or incidents and drop out. Younger pilots are much better trained and have no such experiences. The amount of risk one takes is proportional to the amount recklessness one exhibits. Just like in any sport. We define recklessness very precisely - so there is no need to feel there are mysterious forces at work. In fact, the pilots around here are exceptionally enlightened and have been hang gliding for decades and are dying from natural causes. Just watch the Oregon Hang Gliding School facebook videos to see (not believe) how little drama is involved.

Like I said...
I'm all for you hang gliding...
But in my opinion...
Not the best sport for young men...
Especially thrill seeking risk takers...
Saw this somewhere...
There are old hang glider guys...
And there are bold hang glider guys...
But not alot of old bold hang glider guys.

Rad. I went to sign up for the hang glide club in university but it was already full up so I joined the wake blading club. I wasn't any good at wake-blading, so then I moved on to Stand up Paddle Skating but all my pals made fun of me.

Ultimately I started my own eXtreme sport called base-scooting. It combines the urban thrill of razor-scoot riding with the natural 'flow' and gravity rush of base jumping. It feels great to be an adrenaline rush pioneer. I take my urban fashion sensisbilities to the edge of a clilff and people are all thinking 'wow, what's this guy's trip?' You know what, you don't have a clue, what my trip is. This Sh*t is for real. OG BASESCOOTER 4 LIFE, HOLMES. Do yo realize the danger I put myself in to get the 'RUSH.' Can you even understand how many tail-whips I can pull off before I even pull the cord on my parachute. F*Ck you! This sh*t isn't for you. You don't just sign up for the Base-Scoot army- you haveto pay your dues, son. We can spot a poser a mile away. Consider that, next time you, push your way towards the edge but your two chicken sh*t to bust out. Oh and we're green to. We're saving the planet one misty flip at a time.

Some base scooter I knew told me...
I never thought it applied to me when I scooted...
But now as the months have passed (it is a new sport y'know)...
So many of the guys I once scootered with are gone...
Guys that I respected and never thought would screw up...
I guess it's better to be lucky than smart.
[Applies to hang gliding too]
