WET (surf) DREAMS

Postby Tex » Sun Feb 14, 2010 12:35 pm

I am sure this topic has been posted before but since since my shoulder is dislocated, the only surf I get now is in my dream state. I thought about posting this in Feb Surf Fables but then decided to add this topic.

So I did some time in Seattle years ago. Anyone familiar with that area knows Lake Washington well.

And that is the setting for my latest surf dream. Yes, Lake Washington was going OFF! There were point breaks, cloud breaks and beach breaks. Something for everyone.

So there I was in the line up off a cloud break and then I realized the water was so thick that I could actually run on it. (Yes for the OSP psychoanalysts, my God complex in all it's glory.) So anyway, instead of paddling for waves, I ran for waves. At the peak I would throw my board down, hop on it and drop down the face for a sick drop. Unfortunately, at the bottom of the wave, my board turned into a door. That ended the ride rather quickly.

So there is the most recent one. Not sure if it was the oxycodone or pure desperation to get in the water.

I don't have surf oriented dream much anymore.

I do have a recurring dream involving a dock at the base of a large coastal cliff where there is always a large great white meandering around. It is usually foggy and cold and I stand there with a board watching the shark.

I do however day dream frequently about surfing, but I do not dream about what i have never known but day dream about waves I have known.

I remember certain waves, or certain pieces of certain waves.
A handful in the countless waves I have known.

I do not know what makes these moments stand out more than others. It's not all greatness or only moments of glory, but moments of defeat as well. One of may favorites is a time I was cast upon my back in the pit to watch in slow motion as the curtain cascaded out over me.

however each of the moments share beauty I think. Beauty of the wave, not necessarily what I was up to upon it.

I hardly ever surf in my dreams...
Almost always about krap that gets in the way...
Often super perfect tho.

not being in the water, one of the things I miss most is after a long day of staring at waves, those waves keep rolling across my vision even after I close my eyes at night.
