Interesting. Does Kelly get a bye in round 3 or do they put someone else in the heat to replace Martinez? Any chance Kelly will walk away in support since both he and Bobby already skipped J bay? Probably not since he can taste 11 now and NY is a Quikie event.

Martinez vowed to surf the heat whether they booted him or not:
"If they kick me out, I'm surfing my next heat anyway," he said.
"They can't kick me out.
"Freedom of Speech man. I can say whatever I want."
But the Martinez-Kelly heat will not take place, with the 10-time champ to proceed directly to Round 4 via a `no contest'.

I agree with him but that fool just freedom of speeched his way out a lot of sponsor money I figure. Lot of kids looked up to him, if you can't articulate your thoughts with a mic in your face like an adult then you best not be articulate'n unless you like a much lighter wallet and a lot less fans

Bobby M. should've "fricked" it. Not sure how the ASP rules would apply to that.

it was his last event and Kelly was probably gonna beat him in the next heat anyway so at least he went on his own fukn terms. Pretty lame to DQ him for using naughty words...

Don't disagree with him saying what he said...
But don't disagree with the ASP's choice to boot him either...
Wouldn't be surprised if his sponsor follows suit...
He should choose his words more carefully...
And be careful about biting the hand that feeds him...
Doesn't seem like much of a free surfer type...
And is pretty fortunate to live the lifestyle he does...
I'm guessing if he's frugal he could live off what he's made thus far...
And if he's smart he could be back making dollars surfing pretty quick...
Just doesn't seem that smart based on his response to his spanking...
I'm a free surfer myself...
Just don't have the sponsors...
Although there seems to be a slot open.

The facial expressions of the guy interviewing Bobby when he kept dropping F-bombs was classic.

Martinez has a point, but the more I think about it, the more I like the half year cut. How else are new guys going to break into the tour if they're not surfing in it? It gives the old standards motivation to perform for the whole year and not coast once they've made the tour. And Martinez could have competed in QS events once he knew he was in danger of missing the cut. That would have given him a chance to prove he is of a different calibre.

The thing that is really stupid is the format with 36 surfers, especially the non elimination round 4 after two elimination rounds. I thought the point was to speed up the contest by reducing the number of contestants, but they added another no lose round.

First of all, I’d like to say (an the OSP are going to censor me) ‘cuz I don’t want to be a part of this dumb freakin wannabe forum. All these new surfers want to be insta-locals. They want to do a road trip. How the f@#K is somebody who’s not even surfing mellow Agate supposed to hang at Boiler Bay? They’ve never been here. They’ve never freakin
made the right to surf with us, but now they're posting on here. Come on now. That’s BS. That’s why I ain’t going to these stupid forums no more. This is my last post because WTF, a couple of my friends is here and I just tell it like it is. This is my last one and I don’t like OSU surfers. I don’t like the forum… Who gives a f@#K? You know what I mean?

I’ve been here before. I love this coast. I’ll tell you right now, if my friends wasn’t here, I wouldn’t be here for this dumb forum. OSP? They freakin…surfing’s going down the drain thanks to these people.â€
