If I had to drive to Westport from Seattle to surf, I think I'd surf very little or move to Olympia. The town was more depressing this time, but in a summery way. I like the winter scene more. When the south winds are cranking and the rain is pissing it's more than depressing, it's straight suicidal, but without the fat tourists. Last winter, with said southerlies blowing, I lost my balance in the parking lot with my wetsuit around my ankles and a towel on my waist. Fell over with all my shrunken glory flapping (not much to flap) in the 40 degree breeze, but I digress.

The surf was crap Saturday night and Sunday morning so I did not surf. I attended a wedding with a full bar and had some good pho in the International District on Sunday though.

Maybe this wasn't a surf report.

Looking forward to this coming weekend, catching up with old friends from the North Coast (and hoping not to see others).
Should be fun. The forecast looks promising, but then again, it's a surf contest, and waves are never good for contests...

Look me up! I'll be the woman burying rails, falling off my board and botching late drops in the ladies division... gotta represent the home town.

Not only was that your best ever surf report, it is the best report to grace this thread in a long time. I need more of this, Slim.

Sunday: EV had to check our plants which put us in the vicinity of the epicenter. It was a zoo but I knew what I was paddling out to. Any ways it was under head and the washing machine further down from the crowd gave up some exhilirating working overs.
Sunday evening: We were lucky enough to be invited to a farm party with a couple of kegs of quality beer and two 4x4 posts holding a massive slingshot for launching gourds at a defunct chicken shack. Fricken sweet!
Monday: EV and her friend went out for ankle high mushburgers, but I was to surfed out to go so I read some non-fiction next to a fire until it started pouring, at which point I came to the realization that I hope nothing important ever happens in my life cause this is too good.

Now I guess I should get around to dempesksy obligations

Some nice size, glassy dredgers this afternoon. As the tide dropped it got punchier and punchier making the swims for my board shorter and shorter (not trying to be groovy, just forgot a leash). Checked another spot shortly after and it was really good, but no time to go. Hope it stays glassy tonight. Charging with the kook chord will ensue.

Little bump in the swell starting raising some lumps on the outer bars. Took my 14' downwind board out and caught some nice open ocean swell last couple days. Granted it aint walled up and dredging, but going mach1 on the big board way outside is pretty fun and the rides go on and on.

That's all the rage on the islands.
You can cover a lot of miles on those down winders.
I'd hate to break a leash out there. Your board could end up 10 miles away from you and unless your in a group.
(Which you should be) your screwed.
I don't think I would be down for doing it in OR.
You've got balls man.

Love to have some company, but not many takers around here. Hate to see beautiful downwind conditions go to waste so I end up going alone. Paddled from Otter to Agate couple days ago and it took about 1:35 to complete at a leasurely paddle with large side swell. Knocked me off like 5 times. My wife insists I carry a waterproof cell phone so I am getting one lined up. Actually not too physically challenging if you are not racing - mostly mental challenge of being way out on a paddle board by yourself. Yeah - I double check my equipment and leash before any outside trips.

Or get a VHF radio. Might save a step and get a boat to you a bit quicker.

Supposedly this phone even has a GPS which could come in handy.

Maybe a flare gun then?

More and dredgier dredgers tonight. Low tide settling things down onto unusual sandbars. Unusually glassy and fun in an unusual way at a usual spot. DIgging the waist high puerto escondido mimic that's going on around here.

Is the red an indication that he ate someone? I hear that they do that sort thing? Anybody lost a friend recently?
