So far my bro has 2 Oak Foils boards right now and he says they do exactly what they were designed to do....they work

Not sure how the hipster label works in your comment M but whatever.

Saw the board in person last night. The pictures dont do it justice. I think it will be in the water this week some time.

Fins look like a gimmick to me. More drag than anything. How many fish do you see with slotted fins? I'm talking living ocean creatures, not surfboards. Zero to none?

That's what I was thinking too. Seems like a lot of drag to me. On the upside, after browsing the guy's blog, he seems to make some really nice, functional looking boards. I guess a review will be needed when the thing is done.

Fins on the Oak board

Postby Tex » Wed Dec 16, 2009 10:42 pm

So I guess they have tried this on the fins before.... way back in the day.

My sense is that if it worked really well back then, (late 70's early 80's) it might have been more ingrained in future fin design.

Wayne says it will just give the fins more flex...we will see.

I think the idea is for trailing edge flex, which is very salmon like now that I think of it. If the flex works, it would help reduce cavitation around the fins giving more positive fin engagement through turms.

Ideally, slots would be replaced by fiberglass fin trailing to some kind of thin, flexible plastic. That would be very natural... greenough flex fins for the twin/quad/thruster. now we're talkin'

Art put VFJC1 460 fins on it. Even though I've only ridden it a couple of times, it seems a bit tight, so I'll probably go to something a little smaller.

Man, you're belligerent for 2am on a weekday. It wasn't reiterated, or even iterated for that matter, just a simple question asked and answered
