You definitely should- there are some great breaks in Japan, especially on the Izu peninsula. The surfers are laid back too-- not much localism that I ever saw, especially if you're a gaijin.

I figured some of you newbies cannot figure out where or how you got the Mermaided Designation. Below is the definition:

MERMAIDED: this is common when a big outside closeout freaks you out and you ditch the board to dive under, only to find both feet tangled up in the leash and the board dragging you straight into the impact zone.
"Mermaided again? Get a life-jacket, rook."
