Fish became Old school, is that because of his upcoming birthday?

Wholly smokes this is a popular thread. Haven't read it in a few days and have to play catch up.

Old school in thought maybe. The haircut is an exception.

I submit, Wilbur, that you forgot a group: the nobodies.

They're not loners. You say hi, they'll say hi back. They're not hot shots, nor are they newbies. They're not locals, at the spot day in and day out, and yet ... and yet their mug is familiar. You know you've seen that board before and you know you've been seeing that board at spots up and down the coast for a long time. They're committed but not in a chest-thumping or obsessive way. Just quietly going about their business enjoying surfing and the things connected to it.

There's a whole lot of nobodies out there getting a lot of surf.

That was a good post. Cheers!

It's not what you claim to be honk...but unfortunately..just by participating in any of the threads, let alone this one, you have entered the Line Up.

Enjoy.

Wilbo.

new but not new

Postby goodboysurfer » Wed Oct 12, 2005 10:20 am

I am just getting back into surfing and as a weekend warrior, it sucks to be so out of shape. Never the less, I tried to stay respectful of those already more knowledgable of the breaks and followed the surfline rules of engagement only to find that I am the only one following these rules and I have more experience than I thought.

I gave up all that crap because everyone else cuts me off, people paddle right in front of me and try to snake a wave. And as I was duck diving through a wave I swear someone was trying to fin my calves? So I now take off whenever and hope I don't get anyone too pissed, but it seems you have to be aggressive if you want any good waves at all.

So I apologize to you if you see a 6'3" 220lb guy out there with a board too small for him to ride, messing up your style. If you provide me a friendly tip (no sign language)besides "stay out of the way" I will do my best to give you respect. Maybe a screen name too and I will know who the heck all you people are.

The peaks looking pretty crowded out there and I don't think I would paddle out.

With all those people in the lineup, look for me someplace else, or better yet, don't look for me at all.
