Thanks ML....I went in to ZOOM urgent care last night because of heart palpitations....at 50 and with family history of heart attacks on my dads side, I can't really f@#K around. Anyway, all the EKG and X-ray and blood work came back golden. But my covid test popped positive. Being vaxxed and boosted has made it relatively easy to get through, I did not think I had it. Turns out heart palpitations are symptoms of COVID. Who knew???

Damn homie sounds like you have been through the ringer! But hey at least you are getting it over with

Sounds like its more or less a typical cold and maybe light flu. This strain hasn't bode well for the pro-vax.
I hear ya on heart disease. Have it on both sides. Just had same exact tests done couple weeks ago when I had my 1st physical since pre Covid. Was stoked when everything checked out.

def a relief to come out good on the ticker tests. I never assumed vax and boost would exempt me from getting COVID. I figured it would just dampen the impact once I did get it.

Had my annual ear check up yesterday. About 65% closure in left and 15% in right. That's pretty much been my baseline since having surgery on my right ear maybe 10 years ago now. Plugs and hood seem to be working. I believe I did most of my damage in the late 90's surfing without a hood and no plugs a lot of the time. Thought I was a tough guy or something. Started wearing plugs while living in NorCal where I only wore a hood 20% of the time. Rarely go without one now and always plugs. Doc also cleaned both ears out. Sucked out a little wax with a vacuum from my left that was stuck behind the exostosis. And pulled a bunch a wax out of my right manually, which was quite uncomfortable. The scaring from the surgery removing the exostosis has hindered the natural process that transports the wax out of your ear. I am lucky enough to have good bennies rn where this maintenance is low cost. Plug and hood up my friends. Oh also the doc who did most everyone's in NW Oregon has retired. I have heard of guys going down to Santa Cruz now. I did get a name of a local otologist that might have done it, if anyone's looking. Hopefully I can avoid another surgery.

I chipped away bone in the left ear 15-20 years back.
Right ear is 90% blocked but since I'm already deaf in that ear thanks to really loud music...never bothered with it.
I can never get a good seal with plugs so I just use a big old wad of blue tack 'n' stik with old man ear hair as anchor points.

Dr Lewis at PDX ENT do yours? He retired. Now that your retiring to warm water, watch out for those ear infections. Almost every warm water trip I was getting ear infections and my ear would literally clog up.

It's all mental. All of it. Just change your perspective and you can achieve anything, even immortality.
I'm not worried about any of it.
Pop-ups and paddle endurance are getting better because I am eating more cake. The sugar puts me in a good mood and I go pretty hard.
You can do it.

Sugar is a dirty dirty vice...harder than heroine to kick.

Tex, I'd like you to take some time to sit on a cushion. Perhaps put on some of your favorite tunes and really think about your relationship with sugar.
I never needed Narcan to bring me back from too much cake.

Its a love hate relationship and as I reflect on my nutrition journey, i realize that I have very little ability to moderate. I have actually achieved sugar hangovers from too much cake and ice cream on a saturday night, I have never been able to not polish off a pint of B&J in one sitting. Sugar and weed is the double whammy that most likely would have put me in a diabetic coma at some point.

I haven't tried the cake and ice cream route to improve my surfing longevity...
Yet.
Beer and whiskey seem to have effected limited improvement qualities but...
I keep trying.
I'm wondering if some sort of combo of the 4 might just...
Be the ticket.
On a separate note...
Got steroid injections in both hands today...
Super fun and painful...
Nearly to the point of passing out...
That said...
Having two operable hands could potentially surpass even...
Cake, ice cream, whiskey and beer.
I won't count on it though.

Probably...Punching and grasping after 50 has its risks...
And rewards.
You've got 10 years or so before it's intolerable though...
It took COVID to take me out of training.
Otherwise I'd probably be getting injured on the regular.
Getting old is like being an old brittle surfboard that dings too easily...
And the patches just are inevitably going to fail.
At least we have flex.
