Unfortunately I fall into this exact same catagory!

My problem has been ordering a custom and finding that its not what I wanted it to be, then I always feel guilty when I trade it straight across for an old piecer I meet on the beach somewhere. I had more luck with used boards with a lot of mileage that may have been custom for someone else then I ever have with a board I had made to my specs or anything I have bought brand new. I guess I like my boards like I like my woman and cars....Old and Haggard.
The service here sucks.

You should move to Portland then. Never understood it, but there are guys in this town with double digit board quivers comprised of custom designer cali shapes. Not sure how much they even get ridden either?

For used boards craigslist for sure and GP seems to always have quite the grip of used boards which are posted on thier site. I honed my likings on used boards, now knowing what to tell Mr Shaper when I do place an order. Havent bought a board in a year and a 1/2 though, but used to go through at least 1 board a year.

Another advantage for buying custom is being able to specicify the glassing schedule and gettting the extra 4 oz deck patch. Often find off the rack glass jobs to be on the thin side. Also being able to create a custom color way.

custom is often the same price as an 'off the rack.' i wish i could find used boards to my specs but that isn't happening.

i have a three board quiv that i'm satisfied with at the moment and hope to surf into the ground

but i'm a PDX kook with way too much money who never surfs.

i'm so loaded its crazy. money coming out of my ears. can't wait for The Pearl Mollusk to open, so I can finally unload some of my ridiculous monthly income on some Mandalas and Bonzers to decorate my basement walls with.

Custom can actually be cheaper sometimes, especially if you avoid the sales tax, obviously not a factor here.

You are so loaded from snorting lines off those beautifull boards, but hey at least the blows cheap around here.

Custom, all from the same local guy. I get to talk to him about what I am looking for and he gets to tell me "f*ck that Nash you aren't slater bro, I'll just shape you something to make that bug a little more stinky." Plus I dont' really like the shops and would rather give the guy all the money since they are the same price regardless.

Country, you are so comfortable with your self! I admire the kind of self esteem you muster at the beach! Never afraid to parade that pink bottom of yours.....

That looks like Dana's Hynson template.

Anyhow,

here's a with-the-rack custom for which a category needs to be added to the poll. The merits of such a board are obvious.
