that alaia looks interesting. how much does that thing weigh? been in the water yet?

The Alaia is around 10-12 lbs I would guess. Floats just enough without me on it to stay above water. After paddling around my 6'1 alaia, this thing is a breeze. The toughest part is right before the drop because the board tends to want to slip to one side or the other. Once you are in the wave, the board will sideslip and put itself into trim...almost like it knows where it wants to be. The wave gets to steep, it slides down a little then takes off like a rocket once you find the pocket again. The only thing I can say it feels like is riding the flow-wave...the water is rushing at you and almost gives you a sense of being motionless. Haven't mastered this board by any means, but I'm loving the challenge and the thrill of riding a thin piece of wood.

Rituals, I have many actually. Weird little surf rituals. One of them is every year before the season starts, I take all my boards out of thier bags and socks to air them out on the rack. Not sure if this is any benefit, but its something I do. I'll check for cracks and dings and repair accordingly. I'll also clean the wax off my go to boards and assess the condition of my leashes.

Anyways I did this a few weeks back and snapped a picture. It's the closest thing I got to a quiver shot cause I'm not moitivated enough to lay them all out in the backyard and get on the roof to snap a shot.



Deep in the darkest corner of my house lives the Dub quiver, secret weapons of mass destruction for just about anything the north Pacific or Cascades will throw at me.
