ethical quandry

Postby speelyei » Sat May 09, 2009 7:37 pm

I stopped by the Central Coast Kiddie Pool and Social Hub friday. The party was in full swing, pot bellied dudes and a humorless couple (the man of the house, anyway) from Idaho making the best of ice cold hip-high blobs as the wind increased. In the parking lot there was a dude in a top hat, vest, and a tye-dye getting a sermon on the social ills of the country from a grey-beard at top volume. Top-hat was bumping his tunes and loading a SUP on his car and nonchalantly indulging the self-appointed pundit as I heaped the winters cellulite into my XL billabong.
Defying all assumptions, they hopped in the same car together and rolled off for greener pastures, but I noticed Top-hat had left his carbon fiber paddle laying in the shade of the Banyan trees....
So I did what any self-respecting non-surfing local would've done, I grabbed the paddle and went running out in the street to give it back to it's owner.

So here's my question: I returned the paddle to it's rightful owner, but did I do the right thing?

You should have waxed it before you gave it back, just so they'd know, you know, that you know, you know.

WHew!!!! That lead in was making my imagination run on about your 'ethical quandry.' Glad I didn't hear the next phrase as something like this, "the girl swimming is only 14, but she's latin, and well, you know they develop faster than normal white people, anyway, it's clear that she has a thing for me--"

Anyway, you did the right thing. Karma works on everyone, even cold water surfers.

Sounds like the recession Gods were looking down on you with a free $300 gift.
Boardriding is about timing and style...It’s youthful, active, casual, and free flowing. There is no wrong way to ride a board. The goal is simply to learn, progress, improve, and give it your own interpretation.

I am voting the wrong thing.

I am fairly certain that the Top Hat endorned man in question, in fact sold the paddle for some stinky ganja and was smoking a big fat doob at the Allman Brothers show last night and annoying me with his flagrant air guitar.

This is acctually how i've always kind of pictured you. Except that you'd figure out a way to air guitar with your arms crossed (because tough guys do everything with their arms crossed).
