Looks like a very large swell headed towards Hawaii. Sounds like Eddie might go...

From the Aikau website -

Quiksilver Eddie Swell Update
SATURDAY, December 5th, 2009

**WARNING: The National Weather Service is already issuing high surf warnings to local residents.
In the interest of public safety, the Civil Defense may close roads and beach accesses along the North Shore of Oahu from Sunday night. The safest place to be is away from coastal areas. Avoid traffic and hazards by watching the event live when it goes at http://quiksilver.com/eddie

All eyes are on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday - all three days are forecast to exceed the event's required minimum threshold of 20 feet.
Updates will be issued as we approach those days.

The National Weather Service reports that swell will build early Monday and continue into Tuesday and Wednesday with open ocean swell heights exceeding 22 feet. This will translate to wave heights of 30 feet or higher at North Shore surf spots.

High surf in combination with high tides will produce dangerous battering waves that will pound the coastline, cause high run-up, and jeopardize beachfront properties.

Sorry for the threadjack but on a related note here is some interesting information on the upcoming swell. On page ten there is mention of the swell reaching Oregon with offshore winds...

With two weeks of offshore winds and live contest webcasts, I'm having a hell of time getting any work done.

Pipe is running now in the last heat of round 1, expected to continue into round 2.
