Tattoo artist

Postby qball » Mon Feb 15, 2010 6:58 pm

As long as I'm not surfing, might as well get a new tattoo.

I've never gotten one in the Portland area. Recommendations? I want an artist who can take a design I give him and interpret it, not just copy it. If he or she has a knack for Tlingett or Maori art, even better.

I think there may be better in the area, and it may come down to what you are willing to pay, however I truly think you should meet with Wade from Raven Ink.

Though I have seen some sick work from others as well.

All I will really offer is that research is the most important piece.

Of course the real challenge to getting a quality tattoo is not the finding of the artist but negotiating past the front counter person.....

I'm not. I lived in New Zealand for a while and like their art. And I like tattoos that represent places I've lived. Wanted to get one before I left, but I was too broke.

I got a friend who does REALLY good stick and poke work out of her house.

I'm actually not kidding here... 10 years of it - she's gotten very good, yet remained lo-fi. The way I think tattoos should be; spontaneous & real.

You should get either a rose, lady bug or butterfly tattoo'd(?) onto you kankle, all the ladies are doing it...all of them.

Or how about a nice trap stamp on your lower back.. you know, some mindless swirly whirly marks with no meaning?

Oh yeah, there's that one too.... I know 3 guys with stars on their forearms... must have been the first thing they saw in the book..how original. Let me guess, they were in what they call a 'band' too?

If you pick out of any part of "the book", you have no business getting a tattoo in my opinion. A tattoo is damn personal and if you don't have the gumption to come up with a truly personal design, then maybe you should rethink your tattoo.

That's one person's opinion.

I have the American flag with 'Made In America' on my shoulder... wanted it for years and finally got it the day the first American prisoners of war were taken in Iraq

well, I was torn between a tat of Calvin peeing on Bart Simpson or the Tasmanian Devil humping Winnie the Pooh.

But if I can find an artist I like, I might go original.

whatever you get, don't forget to make sure that part of it extends to your upper neck, this way we all know you have a tattoo when you have your wetsuit on too...
