Glad I didn't listen to you. Volume was required for the most part. Did find one shortboard shredable wave, off the beaten track, thanks to Wayne Lynch, but otherwise the fishy quad was the call.
Gaviota Coast was my sanctuary for the most part. Found a couple of of glassy little gems sheltered from the howling NWs.
Skated the new Venice Pool. Drove nearly 900 miles, (as far north as Cayoucos and south as Huntington) and got to learn a little about the SoCal freeway system.
Now I know what to avoid, I'd love to go back when a proper swell is running.
If you're ever concerned about standing out as a kook in SB, just go surf with some Freshman UCSB students from a landlocked state and you'll look like Curren but I'm sure they'll be carving figure 8s on the wave face by graduation, as that place has a lot of spots within walking/biking distance.
Next week to complete my Crash Course in Cali, I'm off to Nor Cal.
