I think he was referring to your "Devil's Stovepipe".

Hi,
I'm Jen. I am completely new to both this forum and surfing. I have always loved the water, and I am eager and excited to learn to surf. Any advice you all might have would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

You won't learn anything here except how people can talk in circles about the exact same things. You might learn some neat things about white people too, like how we are the devil. I recommend the 'flavor of the hour' thread under 'Things That Don't Matter'

Everything else is pretty much a bummer

C'mon Blue!!! It aint all that bad =)

Just understand that this little forum has a ton of smart @ss comments. The surf report can be a good source of information if you know the spots that people are talking about.

The other topics are more cryptic and based on the whims of surfers who would much rather be in the water than typing on this forum. So it can get a bit out there and disconnected.

However, I have found that for the most part everyone on here is pretty cool and when the chips are down, you can count on this group to send great comments or messages.

Enjoy and take most of it all with a grain of salt.

look, if you're really "Jen", as in, a chick, who wants to surf, this place is an e-ticket ride. I wouldn't be surprised if you've already got a couple pm's for free surfing lessons. Work it girl, work it.

Hi I'm Andrew. Last name's Pierre. No I'm not French, but my dad is. Most people call me Pierre, so you may as well too. Like the user name reads, I'm a Vegan. Not a militant one, but I might be up for a little debating if you get a few beers in me.
I'm not much of a surfer, but I did pick it up pretty quick in the warm waters of Maui. I know the Oregon coast is a bit colder, but It can't be worse that the middle of Minnesota winters. I've been skateboarding for a while, but after surfing something lured me into surf world. Maybe it was something to do with the lack of swell-bow I was getting with surfing.
I'm not officially an Oregon resident yet, but come late July the wife, dog, and I will be. I'm hoping Newport has some good breaks and that''ll allow me to learn to surf better.
I'm hoping the surf scene will allow one midwesterner who knows little about surfing into their scene.
Hello all! Hope to see you out on the water.

PS. how soon will I see a shark? I'm kinda scared about it.

Depends on the typoe of bait you are dangling around ;) Being Vegan and all you may have luck with the Eugene crowd....

Oh wait did you mean sharks... For a second I thought you meant cougar.

There are a lot of great beaches in Oregon to start surfing, just do it with a freind in case you get into trouble, ask the local surf shop guys which places to avoidc and you're golden. Also, don't overestimate your abilities even the slightest. It's easy to do.

Now that last line I can't emphasize enough. Well put Blue. Dont ever let your guard down in the water. Even if you are in waist deep water, sand bottom and knee high surf there are still plenty of things that "could go wrong".
