Fave Wave NW

Postby Wilbur Kookmeyer » Tue Jun 01, 2010 6:37 pm

So what's your favorite NW wave (that you actually have surfed)?

And of course...why?

No need to give up secrets...but share in code if you must...

I don't think I am giving away any secret with one of my favorite spots:

The jetty end of Southbeach CC.
But like I have declared elsewhere, I am a bit of a refraction junkie.
Under the right conditions the swell wraps in there, bounces off the jetty and wedges out.
Much smaller than down the way, but lets face it, after about head high the rest of that curved bar closes out for the most part anyway.

Would like to see how much size it can handle without blowing out.

Another fave is a certain spot in the IB area under a certain tide/swell combo. Can make a weak waist high day real fun for about 30 minutes if you catch it right.

IB in general can be interesting. I have had some weird days there. Paddle out into chest high junk to find a slab that actually sectioned almost to the rocks on the south and then turn glassy, deep, and dangerous an hour later.

Other days that hole is so deep nothing works through past the outside bar.

I would say that the north end of Shorty's can be a hell of a fun wave under the right conditions too.

I like this certain spot in the ocean, near a beach.
Give it a rest.

'member that spot where the dude was talking to himself on the road, Wilb? That's right up there... but really, that whole section of coast. I really like my local rivermouth, too, but it can get snarly and mean.

That was one of the funnest session's when we road tripped with Spent and SG. Never have said a word about it either. You ever get that reef action?

The only one I would name is Gleneden shorebreak. Those closeouts are the best.

That place was great. I would imagine it even gets much better than when we were there.

Of course that other place was pretty good too...once you got past the quasi-locals scamming on the teenage girls around the bonfire.

I should have paddled out there with you...but I was still sketched out by that sea lion incident down south....

One of my other faves is that one right south of that other place. You know..over the dunes and through the woods.... Good summer spot on the right swell/tide....

now that I think about it....trash talker is right....kind of a useless thread....

There's most definitely one spot, the rest has just become training for when that one spot is working, that includes the bi-yearly pilgrimage to Hawaii, it is all training for that one spot, the only spot, that goofy paradise, only an hour away in an entirely different world.

southern bar at the mouth of the netarts bay. If you can get outside alive. second point, if the loc's dont kill u at low tide. And that certain spot near the scout camp. anything you need a gun to get down in primarily. nelscott shorebreak sometimes? those spots remind me of the country on oahu. bigger the better. cheers

I've tilted this photo to disguise its location but this was my fave wave NW for some number of years.
Not often the rivermouth sets up like this though........and with nobody out to give perspective it certainly looks innocent enough too. LOL

Take care.

Ramps secret Right point found it this winter only works at 20 ft plus so fun.

Marco Pollos not really a secret but rarely surfed and when it's on it's the best left you can get to in a car on
Vancouver Island.

Only works at...
20 foot plus?...
Minus or plus tide?...
If you're serious...
'Bout charging double digits...
Much respect...
But somehow...
Seems unrealistic...
And s/b seeing your name...
In mags by now.

Ha! Wilbur, you would be the guy to ask. I'm sure you are hoping to expand your further knowledge of the Oregon Coast. Seems all you are getting though is ambiguity and left/right literation.

No Doc I meant 20 foot swell, its ridiculously protected it faces east so the swell has to wrap around a point but when it works which is only like twice a month in the winter it's a long playyful right point haven't had it bigger than10 foot faces.
