So, when I was over in Hawai'i in February I ordered a 5'10 quad fish (with future boxes, more on that later) from a shaper over there who is honestly like family to me. He charged me $400 for the board and my buddy who lives there was moving back to Oregon in May and I have him $100 to fly the board home for me. When it came time for my friend to go home, my shaper said he just "couldn't put it together" to get the board ready for flight. So now I'm stuck with a board in the islands and the only way to get it home is to send it for $200+ to my doorstep. Blah.
Last time I talked to him I asked him for the dimensions of the board and he said, "i dunno, 6' or 6'1", whatever you ordered." Also, when I was e-mailed pics of the board I noticed that it was fitted with FCS plugs. I hate FCS plugs and specifically ordered future fin boxes. So, not only is it not the right size I ordered (by the sounds of it), but it also came with FCS plugs.
He also owns a shop. I asked him to put it in the shop and try to sell it and just give me my money back. Well, I put an add up for it and had a guy interested. When I told my shaper buddy that, he says, "well that board will cost $600 in my shop." I then replied with, "well, if it's my board and I paid $400 for it, can't you put it in the shop consignment and mark the price up 20% to $480, keep the $80 and give me my $400 back?"
I haven't had a reply yet.
What would you do? What are your thoughts? I'm frustrated to say the least.
I could have a local shaper friend here shape me almost 2 boards for $600. If I wanted to spend $600 on a board, I'd go down to a shop and buy a Merrick or a Rusty or something. Blah.
Thanks.
