Standup Paddle Fishing

So a couple years ago I strapped a bucket with some jigs to my board, tied my fishing rod and paddle to one of the tie downs on the deck and went out fishing around the head. The wind came up and made it nearly impossible to get a good cast against the rocks and I did not even get a bite, but the potential is very clear. Since then I have been working on coming up with a system to fish from my SUP. I just had 10 tie downs put in the deck of my 11-oh, and am rigging a milk crate with a rod holder for trolling. Also will be able to install a rod tube to hold my fly rod for drifting the river for fall steelies and chinook. I am planning on hitting it hard this fall as I have seen salmon jumping just outside the lineup in previous years. Will post picks if I catch anything.

Here is a video of a guy catching a small (not that small really) thresher shark from a SUP...enjoy.

I guess I did...or missed that thread somehow. Very cool Gaz. Looks like a regular longboard - is that a SUP? Have you tried trolling for salmon yet?

Nice Wanty!

Trolled for salmon, but nothing yet, have slayed about 100+ bottom fish tho' :D Fg

New setup has a milk crate and no strap around the bottom of the board, just plugs on the top deck to hold it in place. Makes for more efficient paddling....... and it's a SUP all 11'9" of it.

Are you talking about an actual trolling motor mounted on the board?
You should mount a bike on the board and put sidewheels on it.

Ya - slap a 40 horse on it. Strictly one paddle and wind power

Sweet ride Gaz. when conditions improve, we should paddle out for some salmon.

Wanty - have you had any success on your rig.

you guys should set out from your respective harbours and just meet halfway... Gaz may have the advantage this time of year.

used to longboard fish (ala gaz) off the reefs of s.crz. lost some big 'buts before deciding i was "going to need a bigger boat." besides i never cared much for the bloody chum trail while paddling back to the beach.
