Not to take anything away from the guys that tow there often and on big days, but I have thought many times that the days the event has been held in the past wasnt beyond paddle conditions. To have the main organizer say it is a world class tow spot, well, I guess it would need to have world class size to prove it. To have it all come down to a paddle contest now just kind of shows that for a majority of people, when compared to the top big wave surfers, their paddle surf sessions are what we all would want to be towed into. Their paddle sessions are out of our league.

I would never want to be towed into a 40' face wave. Just go snowboarding for cripes sake.

This would be worth the trip (just an hour north). Those are some heros paddling out. Bet they follow this swell to mavs? Good to see this contest shaping up.

I assume everyone gets a ride out to the lineup? It would be interesting to have a pure paddle category.

They get a ride out to the break... They gotta paddle into the lineup... If they almost die they can get rescued and droped off out side of the line up where they have to paddle back into the line up, or so I have been told...

The planets have aligned as I have a meeting in Agate Beach at 1:00 on Tuesday. Guess I will have to head down early and catch some of the contest. Stoked to see that size if it comes through.

my buddy does stories for the NYT. They are sending him down to cover the contest. Any chance it will be too big? I heard they might wait for the swell to drop and run it on Wednesday.
