NW Surfing Magazine

Postby MC » Fri Nov 12, 2010 3:25 pm

I've heard a few rumors about a NW surfing mag coming out, or maybe it is out.

Anybody else heard the same or possibly seen it anywhere?

My buddy was telling me it's quarterly (4 times a year), no "spot checks", just surfer profiles, articles and photos (locations omitted).

What are people's thoughts on this? Honestly.

I'm kinda up in the air about it truthfully. Don't really know what to think.

i don't really like it.
i don't like it at all.
but it's here like we thought.
there were clues every fall.

i can't say that i like it.
i don't like it a bit.
but there's not much i can do.
i just deal with this shite.

first they came with their cameras.
then they had cameras that had phones.
then their friends of friends came.
they had seen it from home.

we left notes.
we threw rocks.
we threw punches.
and drew blood.
we ranted and raved.
it was misunderstood.
the more that we shouted,
the more people heard.

i don't like it now.
like i didn't like the thought.
but there's no rules in chaos
when the game can be bought.

i do not like it sam.
i don't like it at all.
yet i'll have to subscribe
for a number to call.

bollocks to it, i say. who really gains from this? a few egos will be stroked but essentially the goal will be to pretend to celebrate a contrived image of the PNW surf scene while really selling us fat tire beer, patagonia apparel, GSI surfboards and other consumables. i can't see how this can be tastefully done. most of us have nothing to gain from supporting such a publication.

Ha! Ha! (or lolz as your Bro down in Coos Bay says). High friggin' highlarious. I like their trademarked (TM) motto; "We ride where you ride." And what do we see in the background? The landmark monolith of "Bro-Hampton". So I'm thinkin OK? What did Gaz and Soloo have to do with this? Spys? Russians? We ride where you ride; What's up with that $#!t?

Yeah. I dunno. I have mixed feelings about it. Regarding that site, well, it's just awful all around. We have the OSP and that's all we need as far as online content goes IMO. However, as far as a quarterly print magazine goes, well, I might be able to support that. 4 times a year. I guess distribution would be an issue but I can't imagine it being distributed outside of the greater NW. Ya know? I wouldn't want it out in HI and down in So.Cal n what not. I dunno, it's touchy, but I think I'd be speaking for a lot of us by saying that I'm somewhat surprised it has taken this long. If it does indeed go into production, it'll be interesting to see if it's high quality like the TSJ or loaded with ad upon ad like Freesurf or Surfshot. Only time will tell.

Hmmm, I sure as chit wouldn't want to be profiled in any magazine promoting NW surfing. Sounds like a sure way to get black balled. Not to be confused with blue balls. Both are terrible.
