what like best about that shot is the contextualization of the wave. And to be perfectly honest, surf mags rarely provide enough context for what is happening around the wave. mc framed that once in a lifetime barrel on that beach in the larger context of the town. it tells a story about access, infrastructure, and density.

I think that a lot of the time a picture of a wave can stand alone but providing more context whether it is sand, stone, palms, fir trees, mountains, deserts, or fields for that matter always tells a more complex story.

Cold, fickle, sharky, censoring, spot identifying pictures, the requisite downplay of the wave quality by the 'locals', threats and inuendos...all in one thread....huh....like OSP of yester-year....

Makes me nostalgic.

I'm just glad it din't really go off the hook and open up the pandoras box in discussing the spot just north of there under that big old cliff....you know...

I gave MC a few rolls of ancient film the other day, 1985 expiration or so...
In return he printed off a couple nice prints of places that don't exist...
The dude is putting up with some pretty personal hassles...
Deserved or not, peeps that engage in that type shite best take care...

IMHO he knew what he was getting into. Culture's culture. Some things never change. So why go stickin your hand in the bee's nest?

“just travel and shoot surfers for stories and what not”

Doesn’t seem worth it or genuine to me. And then there’s karma and all that. But again that just my opinion.

Best to shut up, drop in, and surf.

Exactly!
