Yeah, I was in the parking lot when this happened. I looked up and saw 4 guys coming in on one wave, and scurrying up the rocks--never a good sign. The fellow looked a bit shaken up, but luckily no worse off than a slightly damaged board.

Interesting indeed. According to the Daily Astorian, the rosy cheeked young lad stood atop the mighty beast.

And then no doubt " claimed " it.

Pity that Kenny Boy moved to Florida. Coulda' rammed it with his S.U.P.

hmmmm... I dont get it. He says he "hit something that felt like a rock" which to me means he was prone and paddeling so did he ditch his board and jump onto it once he realized it was a shark? Even if he was sitting on his board and the shark surfaced below him without first getting rid of his longboard it would be hard to stand up. I'm thinking it brushed his leg, which got twisted into "stood up on a thrashing great white". Either way...whatever.

I did not see the actual attack. He said he was sitting when he got hit hard from below, which sent him and his board in opposite directions (another surfer said his board actually flew until the leash went taut, and dropped into the water.) Then (?) either he landed basically on top of the shark, or whilst swimming to his board put his feet down on top of it. While I'm skeptical of the media's "surfing a shark" spin, after looking at his board and hearing their account, I'd say it was considerably more than a brush.

Made page A3 of the Star Advertiser on this Aloha Friday. I think his board scared the $hit out of the fish and it was trying to get away. I think the shark is telling human stories to it's kin about now......"the white teeth black suited bastard jumped right on my back!!!!"

A shark surfaced and bumped a friend of mine yesterday morning at a undisclosed break. Witnessed by 4 others including myself. Estimated to be 12 to 15 ft. with a dorsal fin around 3 to 4 ft. I've been surfing the Oregon coast for 33 years and that was the first shark I've seen. I surfed there this morning but saw no shark.

Well Doc, the first thing I noticed when I arrived was that there were 3 guys out already in the same location we saw the shark. And they had been out at least an hour. That made me feel a little safer, owing to my belief that sharks are non - discriminatory and unless this particular shark had a personal vendetta against myself or my 4 surfing cohorts, it would have enjoyed scaring the daylights out of the 3 newcomers. That and the fact that the waves were smaller, breaking in no more than 4 feet of water. Where, were the shark to mosey, had a very real chance of becoming high centered.
