hello again friends, lovers, wankers, peabrains, spalpeens, crybabies, vals, and marginialized religious cast-offs.
So it's been about two years since I stepped on the deck of a surfboard, and I'm still as groovy a surf guru as ever.
it's been a great fall. Our new boards have hooves, and the whole family is surfing more than ever. My daughter is gonna ride the barrels in the county fair, it will be her first comp ever! Killed a mohave green rattlesnake in the stall area tonight, it had 11 buttons on it's rattle and the body wriggled and struck for 20 minutes after the head was removed. Ate the last one, this one's going to a co-worker. Been drinking prickly pear smoothies for weeks now, love 'em. I see coyotes every day, roadrunners and wild horses too. Took the family on a hike through a slot canyon in 100 degree weather, and found another abandoned neighborhood. Sat in lawnchairs with Mrs Stiffler and watched dry lightning till I couldn't keep my eyes open... like fireworks, without the crowds and parking. Got to see a real life desert monsoon... imagine all of Oregons Fall rain in about ten minutes, in an environment absolutely unsuited to receive it. Critters in the garage, too, scorpions and wind spiders. Went to a Turkish themed street dance, and the neighbor who invited us made us authentic costumes, she's a costume designer and a seamstress, and gave us the garb for free just to drum up some attention to her burgeoning business. Found an 1800s homestead, a weather balloon, and some old mines... Lost 20 lbs nine months ago and got a tan, even on my legs! Got another 1000yd range set up on BLM land and watched both girls win their soccer games last weekend...
there's BS here too, but hey, stoke is where you find it. Some of my best days at the coast didn't involve a surfboard... and the feeling of a solo horseback ride at sunrise in the desert is a lot like glassy 4'@12 seconds with nobody else in the water.
I hope you all get some good waves and good rides and are good to each other in the water, and out.
Hi Doc! How's the Cort?
