Surf Sux

Postby Tex » Mon May 27, 2013 12:51 pm

Is it just me or has the surf generally sucked up on the N. Coast for the last three years?
I could be arriving at this conclusion for a number of the following reasons:

1. The older I get the less motivated I am to explore a ton of other spots (although last year was a peak year in terms of # of sessions for me)
2. My travel for work schedule makes me less likely to want to travel for surf
3. I only go out when conditions such as wind, tide, period and swell height line up for perfect shoulder to head high surf...(not really but kind of)

Seriously, it would be great to hear if generally the OSP agrees that the surf has not lined up as regularly up here as in years past.
Are we still in La Nina and we need a shift to El Nino?

Or am I on crack, need to quit the job and stop bitchin?

Work generally interferes with surfing. That said, still picked off some fun ones this past winter. Never as much as I'd like tho

It is the little things like a decent ground swell getting Eff'd up by a larger wind swell.
Just seems like it rarely all lines up anymore.

That's just what it seems like...

Except for all the places that used to be good.

I think I agree Tex. Although, I hear La Nina is finally on its way out. I must say, I've been pretty lucky recently and had a few good sessions after less than optimale forecasts.

I wonder if I just stopped looking at the forecasts completely if I would go more often and if the surf was actually better than predicted, along the lines of what Spent was talking about.

I remember way back when I didnt even know how to forecast spots. I had a weekend open and I just headed down to the beach. I know I had a ton of fun even if the surf was shite.

Might have to give that approach a shot.

Tex, I haphazardly look at reports and just have fun getting salty when I find a less than populated spot.
Hasn't stopped from being "localized" though by people not even surfing.

Wanty, yes . And they don't come back . I get to go there a lot . People who don't get to travel get all worked up about their spot . They would know what utter crap it is if they ever traveled anywhere.

Whiners. We had several high interval episodes Dec-Feb that had lots of spots in tip top shape, it's only sucked since March, though yesterday had its moments, 8@15 in June aint so shabby.
