When is El Nino supposed to get here? The _ _ _ _ was super small (but rideable) this morning.

Got to sneak out last Saturday....full disclosure- this was my first surf session since October. Took my new board- custom design by Oak Foils and you can see it here: http://oakfoils.blogspot.com/2013/09/mi ... hn_26.html

The mini-pynzer-twinzer is ideal for multiple breaks up here. I have been riding several boards under 6 ft for the past 10 years. The min twinzer is 6'5 and it was the perfect blend of speed and length and allowed me to get into waves a lot earlier and more wave face to work with.

It was a small day- waves were knee to waist high but fairly clean. It still amazes me how few people in Oregon actually surf dawn patrol. We are a sleep in, afternoon session group for the most part up here.

I did dawn patrol Saturday... yup, super-small but pretty fun on my mini-log. And yeah, I had it to myself from about 6:15 until I got out. Lazy-a$$ Oregonian surfers

Surfed Tuesday...
Took off at 4:30am, it was already getting light out. Makes it soooo much easier for DPs!
But upon arrival it was pretty junky and super low tide.
Drove around for a bit but all the usual suspects looked equally crappy.
Went to work and checked back at 1pm.
Tide had filled in & it was still pretty bad. Closing out sections, backing off and windy...so, yeah; I was all over it!
Opted for the 10'6" to make it through the dead spots and enough glide to get past collapsed sections.
Moved north out from under the south wind protection and found a few surfables for a couple hours.
I'd do it again.

Yessir- been hitting it super early myself lately. Saturday was pretty small but I had it to myself for over an hour. This Sunday is looking decent...

i've been running more than i've been surfing. which is just plain ridiculous, wrong and painful.

This past Sunday was pretty wild- if you could get to the outside. WELL over head-high bombs rolling in on and off all day. Had to take a pummeling to get out but well worth it.

nor me and its starting to piss me off. i'm at the point where i'd rather run 5 miles than drive 2 hours for yet another mediocre surf session. middle age really has hit... phuck...

Got some fun surf on the 4th.
I was in the water by 6:45 am with 7 other surfers at SS.

We surfed the south end and got some chest to should high surf. The period was short only 8 seconds so the waves bunched up a bit. Tide was heading out but the bars were still working ok. The best wave I got was a backside (left) pig dog stuffer, no time to make a bottom turn just dropped in right under the lip, it got all quiet for a minute with a strange hissing noise, basically got my back in a small barrel which was pretty fun.

Then we moved up to third creek, the waves were hitting the bars a lot harder up there so quick fast drops were the order of the day.

all in all, a great way to kick off the 4th.
