Surf Snowdonia

I don't know how much tweaking they can do to the wave- seems like the 'reef' is pretty much set in stone so to speak. I haven't read up much on the technology that actually generates the wave, but hopefully they can do better than this. Not really very impressive. And is that Robert Plant teaching pop-ups at 1:11???

I have to agree. A lot of hype...the wave looks better at Wavegarden HQ. I am hoping the wave gets better somehow.

Are you tracking the park they are going to build in Austin?

I was aware they are building one in Austin but I haven't really read much into the details (like when it's opening and whatnot). I wouldn't make a special trip to Austin to try it, but I'd definitely drive down from Dallas next time I'm out that way to give it a go.

I read it is scheduled for completion by the end of 2016. My company is headquartered in Austin so a work/surf trip should work out ok.

Used to live in San Antonio...surfed the Gulf...fairly brutal, but I know spots can fire down there. Anyway, I will definitely be checking in out. I have been thinking alot about how one of these parks could work up here so first hand experience is a must. Surfing one of these parks is on my bucket list anyway.

I'm sure a surf park would do very well in Portland. Not sure how I feel about it though... seems like eventually it would clog up the real line-ups as more people would have access to a consistent, less-intimidating wave to learn on.

My favorite thing about surfing up here (as opposed to where I grew up in SoCal) is the lack of crowd and (generally) mellower vibe. Seems like a wave park could influence that in one of two ways:

Either the Portland surfers will spend less time driving over the hill (even if it's 40 bucks or so for a couple hours that's comparable to gas $$ for the 3 hour round trip) or it's going to embolden a whole new contingent of people to get out and surf 'real' waves once they have some experience in a controlled environment.

That said, it seems like there's no current or future plans to build one here, so it's a moot point. For now.

bummed about surf snowdonia. wales has plenty of good spots without this waste of space and energy.

surfing should be done in the ocean. skateboarding in the streets.

ban all surf and skate parks.

live authentically.

This venue has had to shut down twice now....bit rough but probably expected.

Austin Texas is building one now and should be finished by end of 2016.

Red Bull had a contest and Snowdonia, contestants seemed to have a blast.
