I'm kinda over surf trips for a couple reasons. One being when you score you get spoiled on good waves and then come back home and get bummed. The other being you shell out the dough, make the travel, get to location (usually a point break in my case), and then have to compete with Brazos, Israelis, Aussies, Californians, etc who all surf better waves and more often than you do. I find anywhere that's warm at least in the pacific is over run with Brazos. Seems like a lot of pros, the ones looking for uncrowded waves are opting for 5-6 mill locations like the Aleutians, Iceland, Scotland, Norway, etc where humans are scarce in general.

There will be good waves where I'm at in August - just inside AK from Kvichak Bay / Bering Sea
But my company is only paying me to salmon fish :/

Meh... this isn't exclusively a surf trip but I'll be in country for a month. Already familiar with all the breaks and you barely get any touristas in this particular area. Wife is a "local" and knows where all the low-key spots are. I'd live there full-time (and not just for the surf) if I could pull it off.

Poo poo on surf travel all you want MajLaz ;) I'll shed sunburnt tears into a can of Yebisu every night thinking about it...

Actually sounds like a trip I'd take..... a trip to reinvigorate the stoke. Been pretty over it lately. Driving to much blows.

Yeah man - for real. A few shitey sessions in a row up here can sure wear you down. Japan definitely isn't considered a surf destination, but to have the easy access to fairly uncrowded breaks, warm water and a mellow local crowd is reason enough for me to be stoked.

Actually had some pretty fun ones last time I was out. Glassy rampy beach break peaks, 2 or 3 heads out, mellow locs a few I know. It's just all the time I've wasted the last decade chasing it from the valley and yeah plenty of poopy seshies when I shoulda been working on my career skills, trying to make more $, fixing up my 100 Y.O. house, trying to get ahead in whats now become the same grind I came here to avoid. I've had some opps to get closer like within and hour or less which seems way more reasonable, but the wifey wont leave our hood. Middle age, fuking awesome! Guess I'll surf again when I retire :D

Yeah I can't complain about my last 2 or 3 outings either, but it does take a toll when you're fighting for windblown slop every other sesh. Sounds like we're in a similar boat (my missus is nope on the OR coast even though my gig would let me work pretty much anywhere.)

Yeah... surfing in retirement... if my knees hold out. Guess I could end up like those crusty old body-boarders that shred The Cove... :?

Work anywhere.... nice. Seems to be a lot of that going on lately. But I certainty wouldn't be here nor will I retire here...... got my eye on some land down south.
