I, um... struggle with mental health to put it lightly. It's a big reason why I surf. Despite the occasional frustration at the learning process, it has actually helped me a lot. By making goals, I am thinking about the future. Wanting to be there tomorrow. Giving me something to look forward to. Gives me hope that if I can get better doing this, then I can get better in other areas in my life.
And most importantly, when I'm out in the water I'm thinking about nothing else but catching that next wave. The problems and worries literally wash away - for a few hours at least. There are no bad days in the water.
