Injured Reserve

Postby Major Lazer » Wed Jun 06, 2018 11:25 am

Tired of getting hurt. Last year at this time some dumb lady right hooked while biking to the dentist before work me and sprained my wrist which I just finished PT for a few months back. So haven't wanted to admit it but took and embarrassing fall on new skate deck I had laced up back in late March and jacked my rib cage under my left arm. Shredded like a mad dog just after with no issues and started to feel better, but then injured area took a hit surfing stupid Shorties close outs about 3 weeks after. Got better and surfed some sessions with little pain (not stupid shorties close outs!) but over the last few weeks I've been logged 6 or more sessions and last one ended in pure pain granted I surfed for 3 hours and was amping on the fun rippable surf. So finally went to doc said its prob bruised rib and mussel. Nothing I didn't already know and now I am going to miss this swell  At least I got hockey hooliganry right now, but fook!

I hear that. My wrist is still jacked from a kickflip gone awry and although I want to give it ample time to heal completely, the swell ratchets up and I get all carpe diem about things. Good thing I invested in a fancy wrist brace

Sorry about the summer bummer, Major. Hope you heal up sooner than later.

Yeah I've had to surf in a wrist guard before and how I got back in the water during my last wristcapade..... Works good other than pressure denting board. All good bound to go flat here soon and I'll be over it until Sept unless something pops. Should be good to go for surfing with kids and have some backpacking and camping trips in mind up in the Cascades and will keep wet in the rivers.

Skate more, fall less. You have to do both to do both.

Very true had not skated in months. Wife saw me ripping down the street in front of the house and knew trouble was inevitable. 3 beer and Obama kush buzz did not help either.

Stupid short sands blame game is on point.

I woke up with terrible neck and shoulder pain yesterday, so I decided to go surfing at short sands.
Wouldn't you know it...the pain got worse as soon as I paddled out! I blame short sands for most
of my physical woes :(

Chiropractic close outs didn't sort it out eh?

Peeped a 12 at 11 buoy reading yesterday. Bigger than foretasted. Shoulda had one of the choke out specialists make some adjustments for you.

I blame Short Sands for most of my mental woes as well, yet made a similar decision given the current situation with my wrist.

Coincidentally, that was going to be my treatment recommendation... :D

Hope you heal up soon, ML.

Just found out a buddy of mine broke both arms at Zoobomb last week. Crashed into a gate, now is laid out for the rest of the year. Makes me glad I get my kicks in the water and not on the hill...

Bike or board?

Hillbomb slams are terrifying. You never know how is going to play out. Winded the shite out of myself last summer bombing a hill with hard wheels when I hit an oil slick. Thought I had things under control after the initial slip, flipped off the universe and then the universe slapped me back. Tore up my palms, major hipper and somehow got winded but otherwise it was mostly bruised ego.

Bike. Same guy put a hole in his face skating it a few years back-- punctured his cheek crashing into a parked car. I've thought about getting him into surfing, but with his track record, he'd end up getting mangled by a foil the first day.

Add me to the list. I'm on day five of shoulder pain which has rendered me useless. I have to use
my left hand/arm to brush my teeth, feed myself, pull on clothes and literally crawl out of bed.
Currently on a chiropractic + pharmacologic tag team approach to get this issue under control.
Thankfully my gig involves being a keyboard monkey so I don't need to burn my sick days. This
getting old shite is just...getting old. :x

And this is thread exactly why I gave up most land-based activities involving speed and concrete (except for my fair-weather bike to work days.) I ate shite on a skateboard about 4 or 5 4th of July's ago and jacked my wrist for the rest of the summer. Done.

Although I guess my worst activity-related injury ever was from surfing. Took a log to my skull in 97 or 98, surfing N. side of HB pier. Saw birds and everything. Rode my bike home, gushing blood from a 2" gash across my left eyebrow/eyelid. Drove myself to the e-room in my wettie, and 8 stitches and some neoprene funk later it looked like someone had taken a baseball bat to my face. Just happened that I had to get a new DL a couple weeks later - that made for a great photo op.
