Beating the crowds

You think Oregon Surf is crowded? Read some Jacques Vallée. You are likely only looking for surf in three dimensions. There are 11 dimensions. You are blowing it. Quick hint: Sunday evening is always good. I have a Venmo account.

Quitting surfing is the best way.

Or driving 5 hours east. 8)

No matter how long the line is to park in the short sands lots, there’s always a wave waiting for you
in the line up.

Busier the lot the more waves you get.

1) More people in the lot = More non-surfers.

2) More people in the water = More people who can't really surf.

3) More mediocre surfers, the more you can shield yourself behind their numbers and their weaknesses and come charging out at the right time.

Surfed with far fewer people on Sunday but I had less waves b/c :

1) Most everyone knew roughly what they were doing and where to sit.
2) I blew a few, lost my confidence and people capitalized on this.
3) I'm self-conscious, forgot to take my CBD and had performance anxiety. This would happen less in a thick crowd.

Conclusion:

Best case scenarios is 3 buds sharing a peak. One surfing, one sitting on it and one paddling back out.
Second best case: surfing alone
Third best case: a thick clueless crowd with shifty peaks.
Fourth best: mellow, competent crowd on a defined take off spot.

The real best case is: Sunday Evenings on a Twin Fin Midlength. It is not a time or place or even a state of mind. It is everything.

I'm pretty sure that this could be my report for every session

Been a minute or two since I've sarfed sharts, but lot has been pretty mellow driving by. Evenings are mostly a bust. To many new "locals" now that all paddle out last few hours after work. "Gentleman's Hour" is where is at. 8) Given our mostly shifty lineups, luck has a lot to do with it. There's always that person that seems to be in the right place at right time and its often not me.

How about the crowd on the beach?
I walked up to my spot on the rocks after a solid sesh on Saturday and as I passed
by this couple lounging half on the rocks, half in the sand they said "Hey, what's goooing on?"

"Not much."

"Oh, really?...Is Phil still out there?"

"Phil? Um...Not sure."

"Well, aren't you with him?"

"No, I don't think so."

"We thought you were with him since your stuff is right there next to his things."

I just shook my head and sat down on the log next to my pack. I gazed at Phil's gear and thought,
hmmm, do I want to meet Phil? Not really.

I thought about paddling back out but I needed to get back home.

Was said couple in costume? Who won the clean up costume contest? King Tides this weekend should take care of any leftover rubbish.

He was wearing a dry wetsuit with a ball cap and sunglasses. Yes.
She was wearing a blanket. So, yes.

Looks like you could really beat the crowds today. Sunny, peaky, and offshore on Bromton cam and not a sole out. Mt Batch open or something?

Booked my booster at the local thru the Kroger website. Zero crowds.
