Got a 6.5" Wayne Rich power fin in my middlie b/c that's what our Lord and Savior DeV-On recommends, with some 3.75" True Ames side bites... I set the fin dead center. If the waves are cracking, I push it back a tad toward the tail, if the juice is lacking I set it up toward the center a bit. But really I have had my best sessions and linked my best tuns when the fin is dead center or slightly back. For me that board, is best when there is some juice and some face to turn on.
A flexy single can feel really fun also in the the right waves... (predictable lined up glassy peelers). Got an 8.5" Greenough 4A for that purpose. I like singles on my backhand more but rarely use it.
Finally, as HW mentioned the twin and trailer goes surprsingly well in a mid 2+1. I have a tiny trailer (I think its 4.5") I jam it back pretty far to add some control to the Twins... and it makes the board feel about 6" shorter in its turns... but can feel a little out of hand at times... Now I have a mid twin also... my 2+1 will likely stay just that...
