True. I'm not saying people will quit but there will be many 'disaffected' youth who skateboarding will not hold that special appeal to after witnessing that sanitized, standardized sham. My point is, I hope there is something else out there for the 11 year olds that need it. If I was 11 right now and I did not already skate, I am pretty sure I would just shrug it off as more jockish nonsense and find some windows to break instead.

Hammish's diatribe was predictable for his demographic. Good points about a downhill. There's quite a crazy downhill scene these days, yet another niche of skateboarding. What I don't get was why he drove his SUV 6 blocks to the local skatepark

Another family viewing and watched the short attention span version of the surfing finals last night. Thumping swell and wonky cyclone conditions made it interesting. Big outside roll ins to thumping inside sections. Italo is a beast. That close out lip grind to broken board was impressive. Carissa's rail work and power surfing is some of the best. Both seemed to be on another level. Got me hyped to surf. Those T Pat shapes are looking nice under Italos feet. Need to get my hands on one, one of these days. Was surprised to see a nice batch of them on the racks at Pura Vida a year or so ago. May go down the rabbit hole and watch the other heats leading up to the finals.

As soon as a I see a flag or energy link logo I don't care how good you surf or skate, I'm done watching. I'll watch track and field over that shite any day.

Standardization is a death knell.

Honestly, high jump and downhill would make a lot more sense. Surfing... shite.. how they judge it, I care not to know...

Anyway, tuned it all out at this point. Big bonfire of surfboards and skateboards at my house this Friday. You're all welcome. Bring fuel.
