Thinning... idea is to surf everything I have into the ground rn and focus finances on travel. Need to burn some airline miles get into some quality surf and get wave count up before I loose it all. That said, custom order placed with a SoCal legend for June delivery. Rad Ripper should hit CL sometime in May after Mex trip. Would like to get a twinny and probably need to replace the bladed steps I have sold with something closer to a fun gun. That said, I rarely get the opportunities for a shape like that of which I'd probably go local or CL. My Ghost pretty much handles my comfort level at the one spot that holds. Otherwise those large beachie days that are holding in the zones I frequent are a rare bird.

The big 4 0. Dont fret, some of my best years have been 40s. Just got to work at it a little more to stay in shape. I was probably in the best shape of my life from 35-45. Your quiver seems dialed and nicely diversified for your main surf local.

Sprinter Van now that you are entering the peak of your career and salary potential?

Maybe treat yourself to a user friendly shortboard from a mainstream shred shaper :?: I think I have probably surfed the lowest volume boards of my life during my 40s, although I am upping now.

I'd highly recommend a bucket list surf trip to cele the big milestone :!:

Congrats on 40 HW, we have exactly a decade between us. 40's I was surfing the smallest, shortest boards I ever owned, 5'10 to 6'1 performance boards were my laser focus. I probably got the SoJDF the best during my 40's and my fitness levels varied greatly over that decade, I was def putting some LB's while I was still drinking. Keep the short board dream alive, wait to stretch out into 7 footer land till 50, you won't regret it.

In my 40’s I was riding that Bonzer you got off me, a Lost hpsb thruster, Christenson Twin keel fish…hmmm,
and LBs occasionally. At this point in my life most, if not all, of my board needs are well covered. That being said
I’m nerdy AF about surfboards and can always scheme up a design or shaper whose boards I’d like to have in my
quiver. Current musings include a Christenson Nautilus, Panda Shiitake, or Dead Kooks Ying Yang type of sled.

Keep the shortboard dream alive. I think you can shortboard well beyond your 40’s as long as you stay in
shape and keep the volume accordingly. As you said, there’s no better time to order up that freshie as long
as you have your timing setup for today’s delayed delivery windows. Get that summer groverler order in now!

Just ordered my LAST shortboard. Should be here before I turn 47.

6'. Upgraded the glassing to Standard 6/4/4/ S Cloth, and went with five fin boxes.

Pretty amazing time to be alive. Main takeaways so far:

1) Commit to maintaining health and fitness

2) Travel to stay sharp and seize the day

3) Don't sell off the shortboards quite yet.

4) Appreciate what ya have, but stay open minded to the endless possibilities of surfboard construction and design.

Sounds like a lot of work. I recommend just quitting.

Develop a deep sense of cynicism about the generations that are going to smash you soon. Learn to hate. Hang on to your former glory until your nails bleed. Don't go gentle into that good night.

But ultimately, know that the same force that's driving the mid-length craze is also turning your blood slowly but surely to wax.

It's not that bad, it's worse. As one stupid Peter Pan type once said.

I'd concur...
Easier to quit.
But quitting is hard...
Hating is easy.
That said...
At 60. I do not froth as I once did.
Cold, shite, rainy mornings certainly make staying in bed more likely these days...
And much less likely to make a long cold, shite, rainy drive rewarded by same.
I still hunt certain surfboards...
But am now dispersing the 20 some boards in the rafters.
Of course, I have to fix' em up first!
Looking forward to Mexico at the end of February...
Hope my wife likes the desert.

Pretty darn cool to have the 40's, 50's and 60's covered here on the OSP, certainly helps broaden the collective perspective on our pursuit of pure bliss in the ocean.

Spinetek? Why all S Cloth with epoxy resin? E would be pretty bomber with a 6/4/4 and epoxy resin. Prob gonna loose a lot of the flex that particular tech offers. S Cloth is stiff! If I was going S, I'd just do it on the deck patch.
