Went out with zero expectation this morning but had a few small swell spots in mind. Thought I'd be a bit early on the tide but spot A was serving up long walled up lefts as soon as I pulled up. Only about waist high but perfect for a leashless LB session. No one on it and a really nice defined peak. Had to pinch myself after my third wave... The lefts were almost point break like, really long, and just peeling perfectly. As the tide came in the waves were not as steep or fast but couldn't complain given the lack of swell. Got some Tacos and went to Spot B and watched another solo dude enjoy some LB jetty waves to himself, with plenty of shape and lengthy rides. Left him to it and caught some grinds at the skatepark instead... stoke level pretty decent considering how flat it is. Apart form the water temp and grey skies it did not feel like Oregon today.

Heading out for a 4 day surf starting 4/21...perfect timing.
Let's see...
2 months out of the water...check.
Old, fat, and injured...check.
An 11' swell with 20 knot winds...check
Should be epic...if I live.

Otherwise looks solid and the days are long  Help is on the way for DubStar thou 8) Buena suerte este fin de semana muchachos. And post your reports. Inquiring minds will want to know

Forgot the banana but did run into Doc.

Wind was south, then west, then north, then I stopped caring...

Looked decent from the shore but was insanely jumbled combo swell with unpredictable rips tearing through it. In saying that every wave I had was good. Best rights I have had on the mid length channel bottom 7'6" twinny thus far.... but smithgrind hooked up some rose tinted glasses before we paddled out... so who can really say?

Did I mention we saw Doc?

I had the banana but ate it before we pulled into the lot.
Mid tide push wonk fogged up my rose tinting so I paddled north
in hopes of cleaner peaks and a change of scenery. It paid off.
Lucked into some solid A frames on the 6’9†sultwinn while the digested
banana and rose tinted powder did cartwheels in my tummy. The gutbacks
needed some nursing but warm air, sunshine, and back lit waves had a way
of keeping me in the line up even when I knew the lads were cracking a cold one
on the logs.
Doc in the lot? Yes!!!
Great to pack up the mule and catch up with the OSP ledge before rolling
back to the Val.

Rolled out Thursday with low (no) expectations of surf due to giantism...
So, cut up Music Road and back down McGregor to scout weekend escape spots...
Still snowy up high in the woods but no real gems to be found.

Rolled into camp at 5 and drank multiple beers with a friend...
Slept in as Friday also only promised injury or drowning in my reduced state...
Beers at 11am as the other two cohorts of the liquid foursome arrived from nether valley regions.

Saturday, walked down around 11am with a 7'2" tri & a 9'4" single to found some solid head high low tide swell...
Went short to start & blew a few late drops at 3rd creek before finding my footing...
But the paddle, despite the duck-divebility of the shorter board was rough so traded up after an hour or so.

Locked into several short-lived rights on the longboard with some scrambles back out & some rip rides when needed...
Got caught paddling inside the exposed outside wash rock by a head plus set once but otherwise unscathed...
Finally got a long right that connected most of the way through and wrapped in up in hopes of surfing Sunday...
Ran into OSP OG's in the lot, pretty sure I watched them get a few through the lenses since I was in full scan mode.

Sunday, headed further north and was definitely feeling the effects of the previous days surf...
Watched and waited for one of my party show me why I should paddle out to join them but...
The handful that were out were either way out chasing elusive unforgiving right hand closeouts...
Or risking getting run up onto the cobbles on the outer Lanai lefts...
The risk became reality for my friend and he got pinballed a bit before escaping, but fully scathed...
Cracked a beer and watched the rest of the slowly diminishing show before rolling inland yet again.

Did swing out & do recon on the Nehalem River & Lost Lake and found some likely weekend spots to revisit...
Then had to tiredly SUP around Ross Island in my diminished state in the interest of maintaining marital bliss...
One out of four days surfed, but four out of four for fun and stoke and friends and family...
So it's all good.

Does anyone want a 4th report from same day, same spot?

Checked another break early morning. Glassy hammers with a few spitters in between close outs. Valley rot had me in the mood for something more user friendly. The hike did not yield that, but settled for the unsettled and managed a few thrills throughout the day. Not as busy as expected despite a picture perfect Saturday and the statistical anomaly of at least one OSPer in the lineup from dawn to dusk.

Good data. Interesting to hear the different perspectives and see multiple reports for one day.
