The Old Man & The Sea

A good Hemingway book, arguably…
And a Spencer Tracy movie that has its moments…

Upon return from a week of mountain based action…
I find myself wondering how much longer I can keep it up…
It, being surfing not mountaining, trails, lakes, beer, all good…
Currently, my neck, knee, both feet and a myriad of other maladies…
All contribute to a lack of ability to otherwise surf in any serious manner…

My plan to retire and head (far) south is still in the works but…
Loss of health care and several years of mortgage payments still nag…
Wife won’t commit to wrapping it all up…
And just pulling the trigger is a hurdle in itself…

I’m hopeful that I can find the balance I want…
Where I can surf enough that every paddle out…
Isn’t a reorientation of what I’ve been doing for over 50 years…

God, I’m a huge baby…
So many more things to worry about….

And obviously, you can imagine the shock of returning from a week…
Of disconnectedness from the day to day to find…

Seems like warm dry desert air would help alleviate those aches and pains. I know I have experienced many of my nagging aches and pains disappear in warm dry climates like Baja. I mean isn't that why the oldies retire in AZ? A serviceable right point with a nice channel, not too much current, and a 3mill full or spring at most would also help. I'm kinda searching for that somewhat imperfect right-point break, maybe a bit fickle spot that doesn't attract a huge crowd. One of those spots you have to live near to really score consistently. Don't really need to surf every day, I like fishing too, but would be on it when it was on. Got about 10-15 years to go, but think about it often, and hope to ease the wifey in with regular trips prior to pulling the rip cord. In the meantime, I am brushing up on my Spanish and trying to learn Portuguese.
