How much for a new suit

Postby intrepid » Mon Jan 29, 2007 3:24 pm

I thought that I'd start another thread about wetsuits. It's that time of year again to get deals on a new "old" wetsuit. I just came across this:

http://www.hotlineonline.com/Merchant2/ ... ode=outlet

This brings up the question: How much do you normally spend on a new suit?

I'm just getting started (first and only suit) but I got my suit for 180 on sale, thought it was a good deal. It's a rip curl 6/5/4, I like it so far but I'll have to see how it holds up.

Retail minus 40 percent, have a friend working for the man so it helps keep costs down.

Buying wetsuits on the cheap is risky. The internet is full of deals but you
need to know how the suit fits.

I've been very fortunate to stumble on good deals at the right time with my size in stock. Most I've paid for a suit is just over $250 for a pyscho2.

Great suit, btw.

I get Curls for free, hold up well, warm and toasty, comfy too but....
I have a Hotline UHC with the front zip for those days I dont feel like being yoga master getting the Curl on and off.
Trouble with the Hotlines is the behind the knee bunch that occurs...
"you dont bend at the knee do you?" said the non-surfing sales beeotch...
Kook.
I took it to Hotline in SC and they paneled the back of the knee's with 2 mil. Sweet now.

The small amount of $$$$ you might save online isn't worth the risk and hassle of returning a suit that fits like poo poo.

I've bought two suits at Gorge Perf....deep selection, their prices are competitive and its nice to try on several suits back to back to find the best fit. Support your local surf shop - a wetsuit is a major purchase and you'll be glad you spent the extra $50 or so for a warm, comfortable suit.

Last rule of wetsuit shopping - guaranteed the most expensive suit will fit you the best...and outlast the $200 suit by a season or two.
