CL Smoothe has been my go to for a few years now. I like the micros but more then a couple and I get dehydrated and a rumble in the Bronx.

Anyone here brew their own? I'll be doing that soon, especially now that I know you can brew your own Arrogant Bastard Ale for less than 40 cents a bottle over the $4+ a bottle at the store.

brewing your own isn't hard. biggest cost is the setup. there is always a flavor that isn't quite the same as comercial beers tho. i think it may be a filtration thing. i can brew a strong 5 gallon batch for ~40$ then using the same yeast i can brew 3 more batches for 10$ less & when hops are in season another 10$ less.

imperial porter matchup: Black boss vs Black butte XX
black butte wins on initial taste, but then it loses that bourbon taste after the first couple of sips.
black boss is good for the whole pint, no bourbon taste, but sweet & flavorful all the way to the bottom.

Always been a fan of Alaskan Brewing Co. and their Alaskan Amber.
Up in Juneau, AK at the brewery you can buy a tasty dark that has been nicely aged in Bourbon casks that came from either Jim Beam or Jack Daniels after they were done with them..
Also the Smoked Porter is good, beer with a smoky alder flavour, actually smoked. Can usually get it around here in a 24oz microbrew glass, but sells out fast.

I've been hitting the Port like a fiend, but I guess that's made with grapes.

Well, they have port wines and port beers, I'm not aware of the beer being made with grapes.

Try Belmont Station or Johns Market if you're ever up north.

Go easy on the Alaskan Amber, that stuff used to be my favorite until it caused a hangover that keeps me from drinking it anymore.

Seasonal IPA from Widmer is alright. (These come in a 4 pack)
Red Hook has come out with some exceptional microbrews this year... Hoppy with a high alcohol content. Delicious, but expensive.
It was either Red Hook or Widmer that recently came out with a pear microbrew. Single 24oz bottle comes in a cardboard box enclosure and costs about $10. I tried it just for shats and giggles and it was ok... maybe $5 or $6 ok, but not $10

Elysian Imperial IPA, Hoppy and delicious.

What gets me is that the captains from Deadlist Catch have their own lines out now of beers, coffees and who knows what else. Have not tried any of them and don't intend to at the going price. I'm guessing you're paying for a shite beer. Hate to say it since I see these guys around.

Pondering what to try tonight. What pairs well with a bowl ?
