Matt Love's guide to North & Central Coast Bars "Let It Pour" is a good start...

Let's hear about some recommendations or reasons why not...

But here's a list of Oregon Coast & Valley bars I have drunk in in the past couple month's...

The Standard [ne pdx]...Hamm's Bear statue
North [se pdx]...$3 Ninkasi happy hour pints
East Burn [e pdx]...$2 Tuesdays on all pints, bam, good rotating selection
Fort George [astoria]...disinterested bored waitress
Bridge Tender [seaside]...do not make eye contact with any regular unless you are looking for a fight or a friend for life
The Lutz...[se pdx...I don't remember much
Tavern & Pool...[nw pdx]...I have friend's that work there
Sportsman's...[pc]...sooloo, nuff said
Bistro...[pc]...sooloo again
Boons Treasury...[salem]...did you know Salem has the most bar fights per capita in Oregon? Sweet!
Matador...[w burnside]...full of sorrow
Renners...[multnomah]...sorrow on a more intimate scale
Commodore...[off w burnside]...Barfly was filmed here, sorrow
Beaulahland...[ne 28th pdx]...hipster blase
Green Dragon [se pdx]...sooloo again
Hillsdale Public House...[sw pdx]...by my house

Ahhh, The Ship. That sh!tho!e's been a part of my life for as long as I can remember. I grew up in Multnomah. My rednosed baseball coach (think Buttermaker from the original Bad News Bears) was a legendary bartender at The Ship. As kids we'd sneak past them smelly drunks and get candy and crap from Rexall Drugs next to Fat City Cafe. As soon as I got fake ID, The Ship was home base for my liver. Every single day, all the positive cash flow that came in from slinging enchiladas at Chez Jose, was redeposited at The Ship. Ahoy! Either inside my gut, video poker, or the random druggish happenings. At one point in the early 90's it was for sale cheap. I was one signature away from buying it. Instead I moved to a ski town. At last check around 2003, I'm still on the Wall of Shame, along with my brother and sister. When my sister was run over by a drunk driver on Beaverton Hillsdale Highway, the driver tried to escape and drove up 30th ave all the way to Multnomah in her crushed truck. Her rig was so smashed up it crapped the bed in front of the bank by Renners. Ironically, she ran down to The Ship and tried to find a back door to get away. My highschool buddy Swen was bartending and smelled something fishy and locked her in the keg closet until the fuzz came and hauled her azz to jail. My brother will be there tonight celebrating his 43rd birthday watching the Blazers pummel some Phoenix Suns a$$.

Alright, here's a new listing from the last couple weeks...

Cheerful something or other...by the stadium, I do not like this place
Hillsdale Public House...my local, walking distance
Relief Pitcher...been awhile, still the same
Low Brow...my friend owns it, I named it (true story)...he was going to call it the Black Pearl but was worried that it sounded too "high brow"...you can guess the rest
Goose Hollow Seaside...a little too antiseptic, didn't care for the music act
Mary's Club...at least the stripper wasn't wearing a knee brace like last time

Slim's (St. Johns) - dark and danky. saw some irish band and was too drunk to dance.
Mock Crest (NoPo) - it's been awhile. scube and now Nash's closest stumble distance.
Florida Room (N. Killingsworth) - always a good stop by and close to my house.
Red Fox (N. Albina) - almost as close to my house as the Florida Room. can't seem to
show up sober.
Seraveza? (N. Killingsworth) - beer and more beer.
Pause (N. Interstate) - Food and drinks. The closest place to drink by my house. Where
I go when I need to see if I want to be married with kids.
White Bar (Mississippi) - The patio out back is nice. Always way too loud inside. I watched
this girl slide outta her barstool and land flat on her back in mid
conversation. Her friends all stepped back as she slid out to ensure
she hit the deck.

Nice thread, Doc.

I forgot about the Red Fox! The tender was very chatty, almost too much...
Pause is owned by the same guy as the Low Brow...I did not name it.

Couple/3 additions in the last couple days:

Salvador Mollys...trying to hard to be tropical, I hate surfboards as decoration...
Fulton Pub (McMenamins)...old standard, good people working there
BlueHour...got dragged there, better than I remember tho, less hipper than thou after 5+ years I guess

I heard they shut down the Beavers Inn on 82nd. All is lost, all is lost. I think I have a Mary's Club t-shirt somewhere, still.

What can I say? I'm a class act.

I liked the Lutz when I lived by it, used to go pretty frequently. I got street cred from the Reedies because I wore Carhartt's and Wesco's for work, not fashion.

Dublin Pub for nearby quality beers and decent prices
The Mcmenamins across the street if I'm sick of the Dub or want to sit on a patio
Pub 45 for divin', cheap pool and domestics
The Candlelight or Pacini's for winding down before heading home
or the Mcmenamins next to Pacini's if I'm sick of seeing people I go to school with.
Market Street Pub patio is good for after skating at Gabriel
beer isle if on the coast.
Potato salad or die!

Sandpit (Manzanita) - hard to beat when I'm sleeping in my car. More of a summer
spot that heats up with bands and townies...As Slim once
complained "they need to get a better selection of beers".
