So, is there any tread left on the tires? Or at this point would it be like throwing a hot dog down a hallway?

I took a trip to Tutuilla, American Samoa in 2003.
I didn't have a digital camera at the time
so I couldn't share pics till they were scanned.

I'm in the process of converting them to Jpeg.

The trip was a whole lotta fun.
These pictures are from the first day which was the most crowded day.
I believe there were four people in the water when I paddled out.

It is a fun left! These pics are from day number two... 8)

Also, you gotta realize,
I wasn't about to waste time on the beach taking pictures!
I just snapped a couple photos while I waxed up!

The dude in the dress (lavalava) just got off the bus.
The buses are similar to the Philippine jeepneys. They are a made from
a Toyota pickup chasis converted to a bus
with about eight or so seats.
Each village has a couple of busses that are
their pride and joy.
They cruise the road in to Pagopago blasting music
with these big dudes hanging out the windows.
It is a sight to behold...just don't stare too long!

I don't know how they fit all those huge Samoans in there...

Future gnarly locals...

Sorry, no meth here. Those lefts were awesome...

Getting a surfboard down to American Samoa and checked
through their customs was no easy feat.
There were times I wondered just what the heck I was doing.

That first day, I remember my first wave very well.
I remember dropping down the face and pulling in
to the barrell. I came out after a couple of seconds
and cut out of the wave.
I paddled back out and just sat there on my board
looking at the surroundings in awe.
I remember it was very surreal as I took it all in
and realized it was very much worth the trouble
to get down there. 8)

Speaking of meth addicts, here is a self portrait I took
after hiking to the top of Rainmaker mountain above Pagopago harbor
and a picture looking down into the harbor.
You hike up to the top of the mountain and then get these
very strong whiffs of fish from the cannery below.
