I love that tropical water, so beautiful and clear. I must say though when I was in So Cal. it was really sketchy surfing in such dirty water. It was so dirty you couldn't see more than 1 - 2 feet through the water. While sitting on the board Iusually couldn't see my feet, and sometimes my hands.
It wasn't the disgusting factor, though that was up there especially when I surfed sunset cliffs at the base of sunset blvd. after a massive rainstorm and after shooting the point and coming in I had to dodge floating trash on my water exit. Not to mention the oil that I got in Santa Barbara over everything, I guess those rigs leak a fair bit. The sketchiest and worst thing about the dirty water is you had no idea how shallow it was cuz you could never see the bottom. I remember surfing a wave we called rusty pipes and it was suuuper shallow on the inside, like barely able to clear the rocks with your fins, but you couldn't see the bottom. My buddy was jamming down the line, tried a floater at the end of the wave, landed it, fell off the side of the board, hit the bottom, actually smacking his nose on a rock.
We had no idea how shallow it was until then. From then on in, we cut off the back before the inside section. I guess dirty water has it's pros and cons, there's the out of sight out of mind factor, there were a few spots I probably wouldn't have surfed if I was able to see how rocky and shallow they were so I guess you have my confidence in your ignorance. But then theres the con of not knowing how shallow it is where submerged rocks are, etc. When I cam eback to Canada it was a trip to be able to see my feet again...
So, is there any tread left on the tires? Or at this point would it be like throwing a hot dog down a hallway?
