Grants Pass Surfers?

Hey all.

I've just moved to Grants Pass from New Zealand. Do any other surfers live here in GP (or near by)...the local surf shop doesn't even seem to sell wax. If you want to share expenses to the beach then get back to me. I have a good mpg wagon if you don't have a car. I'm always keen for a mission to the coast.

Yup, we are secretly taking over Australia, the West Island as we like to call it.

I married a local GP girl, moved here in February, haven't surfed since :(

You're an hour and a half from Crescent City your best jump off point for waves, not sure there are many surfers from G.@ss who post on here?

Too bad highway 199 sucks. Would hate to drive that beast on an icy morning. Lots of waves down that road though, yes.

Yeah, I've been to Crescent City a few times already, looks ok. I enjoy the drive too.

I've been checking the Crescent CIty surf report over the last week and it says it's about 15' and glassy in the mornings...what is the actual wave size there? I'm assuming that the 15' is the swell size, or possibly the more exposed spots on the beach. Any good surf report websites recommended?

15' refers to the board size you need to surf there.

http://www.buoyweather.com seems to be about as reliable of a web forecast as you can get, once you figure out how the open ocean swell size equates to the breaks around there.

Lots of surf options in and around CC depending on swell size and direction. Drive around and check things out, you may get lucky. :)

Hypocrites! The whole lot of you!

If this guy showed up saying he wanted to car pool to PC you would hand him his e-@ss.

But he is an inland kook wanting to hit Crescent and you practically give him a surf guide to the area including name dropping heavily localized spots that the locals are even nervous paddling out into.

Clowns.

"Cold. Fickle. Sharky" is the standard response.

Cold - Fickle - Sharky

Shoot, if he wants to come pick me up in Portland at 6:00am and drive me to PC and back, then I wouldn't mind. I'd let you too. :)

Hell we just might have to do that....

Of course you should know it probably won't do much for your beach-cred...or even your web-cred....

Matter of fact it could ruin you altogether.

You may want to rethink it.
