PCH Southern CA to Wa

I've never taken it all the way in either direction, always eventually made my way to 5. How do the Mountain passes compare to the passes on 5? Trying to decide if the old 72 Chevy can handle. I only want to break down a few times.

I have done 101 from south oc to south oc, not bad at all. Just don't get on the 1 after the bay area unless you got like a week to kill.

It's not about time, I'm retired. I'm worried about my van and the climb.

Big Sur is probably the most treacherous stretch of road. If you haven't been then do it anyways is all I can say.

I'm sure I'll get to know that stretch intimately then. Prob where I'll have to change my starter or some sh!t. Maybe hitch 60 miles for a new choke. Sounds like a trip!

Another concern is gas. There's only two gas stations at nearly opposite ends and it's double the price per gallon so plan ahead.

Hmmm I'm thinking this could mean a few different things here.

i've driven the coastline from my house down to santa Cruz, it was fun. Buncha cool spots N of San Fran and plenty to look at and do along the way. If'n ya roll through my neck of the woods before August, it'd be nice to buy ya a beer and talk shite about everybody else. Mrs Stiffler and the girls say howdy.

Ive done this a couple times (Eugene/PDX over to the coast and down to Encinitas and then back - coast highway all the way) and it's worth it. Certain parts of the drive take time, but it's minor. That Big Sur stretch isn't that bad, and its super scenic with some fun surf spots. This trip takes time, especially if you go slow and surf/camp all along the way. You will head inland around the lost coast, but otherwise you are pretty much coastal the entire way. Can't beat it. Have fun! Aloha!
