People that truly believe there are too many humans should go jump off a cliff. Otherwise they are being insincere.
DISCLAIMER NOTE: DO NOT, I REPEAT DO NOT JUMP OFF A CLIFF; this was purely hyperbole to make a point. I don't want anyone to jump off of a cliff. Everyone has too much to offer.

I DEMAND THAT EVERYONE WHO READS THIS MUST JUMP OFF A CLIFF. DO IT, DO IT NOW.

Like it or not, we're all in this together. Humans aren't going extinct at the same rate as animal species, which might be an excuse for caring more about animals, if anybody here truly does. Either way, the real work is to protect all living things from people like Wilbur Kookmeyer.

WTF is that about?

Protect living things from people like me?

What is it you think you know about me to make that kind of a statement?

You're right, I should have never said '...people like Wilbur Kookmeyer'. What I meant was ...people with attitudes and beliefs similar to those expressed by Wilbur Kookmeyer.

I don't know about saving every species that might find itself in trouble. What about survival of the fittest? Adapt, or die, isn't that the basis for evolution?

I'm no expert but...

Isn't adaptation based upon a long term transition? Like 100's of years?

Seems like some of the changes wrought upon the environment, whether you accept global warming as a human activity drived phenomenon or not, have moved into the 10's of year...

Maybe some things are meant ot perish, but the gradual eradication, elimination or extinction of specie after specie...has no good positive ending point as far as I can tell.

If you can take steps to assist a species survive...should you? Or not? Clearly it's more complex than that.

Nope, read "The Beak of the Finch" it's a tremendous book and shows how quickly adaptive physical changes occur in many species.

So...

How quick then?

A couple weeks or so?

I was thinking, it wasn't fair of me to demand everyone jump off a cliff. Some of you may be in wheelchairs or hospital beds. I'm willing to push and toss some of you off a cliff.

Oh, and about extinctions due to human influence, it doesn't matter unless the species in peril happens to be cute and fuzzy, or taste real good.

Anybody know of a good cliff? Something easily accessible by car, real tall, coastal would be nice.

Oh, had another thought, PETS, my newly formed "Courteous Cliff Tosser Corporation" can handle housepets. Larger animals need to wait on the "Courteous Catapult", coming soon to a cliff near you!!

Changes are noted in single generations.....

With nowhere left to run, the animals that survive will have to adapt to rapid climate change, habitat destruction, automotive and industrial pollution, sewage, radioactive waste, light pollution, noise pollution, Jack Johnson lyrics, the list goes on...

Cockroaches can survive in just about any environment, I hear.
