surf report-wall south dakota-saturday...i think

swell kicked up on the west side of the state and we found some nice rollers before dark.
indian fry bread tacos and margueritas before a stroll through jackalopes and harley baggers.

looping thru a spot that sounds like trouble (the badlands) tomorrow early morning sesh. hoping to get the goods before the crowds.

passed a hybrid with boards headed east. i'm headed west.
so there's at least a few fish out of water in south dakota.

*ya'll get what you can. i'll be home soon. then it's mine.

spotted a fresh dead rattler about 3 ft long on the side of the road. deep in the badlands (wilbur-you gotta go ride over here-excellent rides)
stopped to show the kids. got some good shots of me holding it with my knife and a screwdriver. then decided to cut off the rattle for a souviner. because, that's how i do. it's not allowed in the van, so it's zip tied to the rack. my six year old is gonna make a necklace out of it. because that's how he do.
i'm tellin' ya. ya'll bes get what you can. we're almost home.
just got a few days more. unless we see something else we need to skin up. hitting some secret spots in yellowstone tomorrow.
but i can almost smell the ocean from here.

ps-i've been feeling quite kookish what with a longboard and a shorty (1980s natural art winged twinny) on the van...i mean...ho pathetic and embarrassing to be caught in the badlands with surfboards on your roof!
not to fear. cruising thru downtown sheridan wyoming, there was a blazer...wyo plates and everything...with a thruster strapped to the roof.
but it was strapped nose forward and fins back...how embarrassing!

That's the great thing about surfing.... there's always someone kookier than you.

Ask Lewis, Clark and Wilbur, for only they know the disappointment that is seeing the Oregon Coast after a charmed life in the east.

saw this great looking point sticking out into the crystal blue waters of yellowstone lake yesterday. there was a little swell rollingg in and the winds were favorable for some epicness. but when i got there, the crowds were ferocious, and the point of land was leaking steam and acids down into the lake. that, and there were signs saying the water was off limits. so, we didn't surf there afterall.
i'm having my coffee in idaho this morning. only a couple stops, then we'll be home.
the search is almost over.
thanks to anyone that has followed along.
everyone should do a trip like this at least once in their life.
(but to be honest-i haven't surfed in six weeks. and i'm starting to miss it.)

Sounds like Nye Beach sewage overflow conditions.

thanks blueballs! it's very good to be home.
got in around midnight. it's f-ing cold. and i'm loving it. wind's northwest and sky's got fog and if i can wake up early enough i'll re connect the battery on my truck and look for my wetsuit and booties...and i should probably look for my gloves. i'll load up my tools...and go to the job site. (<metaphor) not holding my breath, but it'll be good just to get back on the swing of things.
to anyone following my boring and stupid reports (where t f is gremlin?) i hope you enjoyed the show. and thanks for all the positive vibes.
