Issues of Localism

This forum is for SURF topics such as localism and rants that are usually negative in nature. If you're a baby, complainer, or generally think you're right and everyone else is wrong this is the place for you. a SMALL tidbid of Nicobar Island wisdom..."The women and the children were scared. But we remembered our ancestors had taught us that the land and the sea always fighting over bounderies. And things keep changing. It was nothing to be afraid of.Nothing is safe and intact. The earth rests on a giagantic tree. It can be shaken by spirits. Bad spirits are at the tree trunk trying to hunt humans. Good spirits are trying to save them. When spirits shake the tree we feel it as earthquakes. On the day of the tsunami, much as in the past the spirits tilted the tree. So the seawater went away from the edge of the land. Those who were at the beach ran to the camp. They shouted that the sea was going away. Spirits had shaken the giant tree in a big way. And bad spirits would push the sea back into the forest. Everyone had to run away from the water!!! Run deep into the forest. The sea was going to come back in anger. Spirits would push forward to create a place where the land and sea could live together. We waited untill the land and sea could figure out where they wanted to draw the new boundary. On top of the giant tree where the earth and the sea rest, everything must be kept in balance." It would have been cool to see that entire conversation. I used to think these people were backwards. Now I know that we are the ones that are backwards.

tyedoggie, we're the backwards ones? Admitantly we are, but are those people superior? Are they not backwards also. I've been to Thailand and many of the places where the tsunamai hit, I will tell you that they are some of the finest people yet very backwards. We're all f@#$ed up, just to what degree and the power with which we can do good or bad.

Nicobar Island(s) are nowhere near Thailand. But I did copy that from a translation of a conversation with a short black man with a 3 years old hanging from a strap on his head and speaking in strange cklicks and sounds my mouth cant even make. Looked a litlle like your mom, but she was at my house when I saw It and she swore it wasnt her. But Im sure that short black man was as happy as he was backwards. Plus his government restricts tourist, big time. Probably one of the least surfed pefection left on the planet.
