Any of you old guys experimenting with sobriety yet?

Does cannabis with zero THC count as sobriety?

Not really experimenting per se. Sometimes I simply forget to drink, vape, or pop or I don’t have time.
Kinda like vitamins or brushing your teeth.

I don't drink much nowadays. I dabble. Never giving up the ganja, that's my medication.

CBD does count as sobriety because 90% the products marketed as such contain no cannabinoids whatsoever.

But the legit stuff has lots of benefits, especially on the subject of sleep. Still counts as sober since the THC is trace if any.

Also wanted to mention a really great series of interviews in the latest Thrasher (Aug 2019) on the subject of sobering up. Surprisingly, I've never associated skate culture with sobriety and was moved by the experiences of some heavy hitters like Elissa Steamer, AVE, Muska, Andrew Reynolds, etc. Was especially stoked for Arto Saari who gave up the ghost and credits sobriety for his new passion for surfing. Definitely worth a read if you pass by it on the news stands.

Still sober myself-- gave it all up for surfing. If I need a fix, I drink kombucha or zap myself with 9 volt battery. Life is good.

Atta boy Howly....some days I do miss a nice cold brew....but not enough to risk going back in full on drinking like I used to. Sometimes sobriety feels pretty damn boring. I occassionally wonder how much more invitations I might get to kick it if I was still drinking. Never get invited to parties any more which kind of sucks cause I still like to hang out and have a good time. I just dont need booze to do it.

That is solid Betty....I remember my sugar intake blew up after I quit boozing. I was almost doing a pint of Ben and Jerries a night. Sugar is my last remaining ingestible addiction but I have been studying mushrooms, never done those before, have to admit I am curios.

Cant wait...if I make it to 75 I am going straight back to Newports.

Every year I do a dry or sometimes sober October as well as a 3 week stretch around July. October is my birthday month and also surf is usually good, so its a combo of tuning for fall surf and just doing it for that last month of my birth year. It's been nice to have a little window of clarity and man that 1st beer tastes so good at the end of the month, which is on my birthday. The July deal is usually just prepping my "bikini body" for an annual trip to see my fam in coastal New England, which is entirely spent in the water and on beaches bronzing. 8)

I'm mostly a weekend drinker and puffer and don't do either very often Mon-Thurs. Try to keep it to 3 or 4 beers when I do, but sometimes it's just 1 and others it might be 6, which is pretty rare. Also a fan of a good pinot with a meal. I will also sip on a little whiskey this time of year. Took some shrooms for the 1st time in a long while this summer deep in the Cascadian back county, which was pretty fun but noting I am amping to do again soon. That's about it, no coke, heroin, or pills for me but cant say I haven't been there tried that. Just was never really my thing, so never stuck fortunately.

Have seen friends and family go though the ringer with drugs and alcohol and have even lost some of them because of it, so I understand addiction and maybe that has kept me in check. Living in PDX would be a hard place for me go sober and I would have to stay very busy with physical activities, but at this point I don't see any real reason to do so and just try to live by my Nana's long time sage advice "everything in moderation".

Everything in moderation....so true, if you can walk the line.....I am all in or all out. My wife can moderate really well. 3-4 smokes a week, couple glasses of wine a week, it is a blessing. If I had one smoke today, I would be buying a full effing carton tomorrow.

Curious about the shroom trip, was it pretty heavy? I would be hopeful of some type of spiritual insight/enlightenment/vision...but I know there are zero guarantees with any psychedelics.

For sure for some its all or nothing and never one and done.

I'm no spring chicken when it comes to psychedelics, but stopped many many many years ago. I think my last acid trip was at a New Years Phish show at the Worcester Ice Center in Mass in 92? And maybe continued doing shrooms occasionally there after until late 90s? Now I am hearing all this about the kids micro dosing and going to work and shooms being used for treating depression, mental health, and psychological issues. Apparently Colorado is close to legalizing and there were folks getting signatures all over town to get something on the ballet measure here.

Anyways buddy hooked up the perfect dose, just enough to peak out for a bit, but never lost control. Best thing about it was I was able to just stay in the moment and enjoy the ride and knew I was in the perfect head space prior to making the journey. Was also key being out in nature 7 to 10 miles from the nearest road in a beautiful wilderness area nestled just below a large Cascadian volcano.
