Crazy weather

Postby brdsurf » Sat Aug 14, 2010 1:53 pm

Sometimes I really find myself missing the weather back in Oregon. The storms especially. This year in Helsinki it has been the warmest recorded summer in a couple centuries so far. That I dont really like. To many mosquitoes. Anyhow a week ago it was super sunny and about 85 outside. After doing a catering gig where some of the guests I didnt know where coming turned out to be current prime minister, former PM, Foreign Ambassadors from Belgium and Holland, I decided sunday would be a good day for a good ol american BBQ at my girlfriends sisters place.
After about what seemed like 20 beers I thought time to head home and so we did. What was a super warm dead calm day turned into this in just minutes. It was odd. One of the coolest things I have ever seen. Im living in a building that has been around a couple hundred years and it stood here like nothing was going to move it. I guess the cool part of it was that in Oregon we often see odd weather but it is so surrounded by nature and new buildings. To see this come and dominate what is an old part of town with cool architecture was rad.

It only lasted for a hour or so, but during the time Iron Maiden had to postpone part of a show as did Alice Cooper and a few others. Why do old rock acts come here? Well, thats another thing....

Crazy, I like how the people are scrambling to get out of there.
Here's a shot I took of an approaching thunderstorm in Montana a couple weeks ago:

Weather that elicits shrieks and screaming is the best...
I terrified my kids by taking them out to Cape Falcon once...
During a storm with 100 mph gusts...
They were afraid they were going to get blown off the cape...
"No way!" I scoffed. "It's totally onshore."...
They wanted to go back to the house tho...
Babies.
