Yeah, I like the Frye and am inspired by him as a shaper/person too. The red would look pretty good on the blinding white of my board. The purple would too... Maybe both? at once?

Good luck with the paddle board and the stitch and glue. I've been wanting to build a Pygmy stitch and glue kayak for some time, so would like to hear how your board goes. From what I hear, a well-manufactured stitch and glue kit goes together pretty easy. Post pictures as you go.

I have the Farberow in a 9". Great fin, fun flex, and miles of style. I wish mine was purple. :cry:

The Frye Flex fin is what I use on my 10'6"...
It's very loose...
Just get both.

So, I landed me a Frye Flex fin. Unfortunately they only had clear/opal. I wanted the red. I'll live. Maybe I'll rock that when the waves are wee and then next time I have $60 to blow, I'll buy a beefy Farberow for chunkier times. Or I'll just surf the corn cob.

PS: Speelyei, I've never been able to dig on the round-tip fins. But, I've also not surfed them too much. Wait, I have, on the tangerine tanker. I like that board...

Started the cutting on another home-grown SB, 5'9"ish quad fish. Hopefully I can implement the lessons learned from the first board.

post pictures if you've got them! Stoked for you and envious that you've been able to follow on with another shape so quickly. Probably getting it tuned in pretty good.

I've finally got around to riding the longboard that I shaped this summer and it's been phenomenal these past few days. I'd forgotten to put a little nose concave in it and my shaper guru remarked "well, you won't have to noseride it then". True enough. But, it turns out it nose rides pretty well.

Hope you get to ride it before the scheisse hits the fan next week.

for you guys building boards, not including tools, what's your total cost for blank, glass, resin, fin boxes, etc. ?

my 10' log came out expensive because I made mistakes that sent me to the local fiberglass place to buy more stuff. probably around $400 if I did everything right. I'm looking at shaping something shorter soon and that will be in the $250 range.

WC and I got some old Clark blanks from a friend of an OSPer for $60 ea.

Most of the expense is gonna be the blank so $60-150 depending on length(also shipping). A lot of the marine supply stores have 6oz(and heavier) cloth but probably won't have 4oz and their cost is about the same as ordering online when you factor in shipping. They'll also have epoxy and poly resin but the price can be high.

So my cost:
Blank $60
Cloth $30
poly resin $30
future fins/boxes(no frills) $35
leashplug $2

=$157

Add a liberal $10-15 for paint, if wanted, and you got a really cheap new board. But if you order a blank from the web add another $30-70.

My walden tri-fish is my go to and it can handle pretty much anything. I've ridden it as a twin once and was ok for a <WH day.

I just got done building my first board. I purchased a kit from fiberglass supply and had family bring it when they came to visit so no shipping. Total supplies probably came to around $225-250. Made plenty of mistakes along the way but it was an amazing learning experience. It definitely doesn't look perfect but I definitely don't surf perfect

. I am leaving room for improvement.
