The first glass coat was the worst for me.

Just finished the bottom gloss coat tonight. The heater's cranking in the garage so I should be able to gloss the top tomorrow.

Only have cheapo fins right now, I'll try bartering on CL for a decent set.

seems like after you do one, you should do another right away to burn those skills in. Me I did one and may do another some 2 years later.

it is not free. I enjoyed the process, and think another board would come out better, prettier, sexier, stronger... but I can buy a board off the shelf as cheap as I can make one.

Why would you buy one off of the rack when you can have an asymmetric board with rails in a form hitherto unridden by humanity, in a resin tint that's splotchy, a tail that looks like a nose, crooked fins, and an overoptimistic shortness relative to one's abilities? I mean, you would be missing the boat big time.
