So I'm about to get a new board for small mushy waves. it is going to be a fish hybrid twinnie type deal. thick and wide with a winged swallow. probably 6'4" x 21" x 2 7/8"

but i still can't decide to go quad or twinnie. originally i was going to go twin fin. then it was suggested to me that an optional trailer might be a good idea for extra hold when the waves turn on. but it seems the quad set up might also add hold and drive but retain the looseness of a twinnie.

i've surfed both before and i think the quads felt better and were a bit more 'user friendly' but they were on very different boards. i think i tend towards less is more and aesthetically find a twin more appealing but functionally maybe this isn't so...

thoughts?

I bought my Hammer from Finger at his new shop:

6-4 x 21 5/8 x 2 5/8 twin keels. I like the board now, had problems on it at first but I am learning to ride it, at least it feels that way. I will keep the board but I would like to get a 6' fish with the same Future twin placement but add a third boxed positioned for a single fin. I would not want the third box for a trailer on a retro style fish. I'm still young on this board but it makes sense for OR beach break where you can have waves pitch quickly. Great for late drops. 2 fish in my quiver makes me want to quiver. No bad Fish jokes...

This might be a stupid question, but is fin placement on a Quad much different than a Twin-- meaning, can't you ride it Twinnie if you'd like or Quad it out???

I am interested as well but I would speculate that the fin placement is different. I would think that the front two on a quad placement would be too far up the board towards the nose to only be used as a twin even if you chose keels. As a non-qualified example from this pic via Swaylocks that Stif posted on another fish thread:




I would like to hear a response from someone who makes a fish work well.

you dont need fins to surf properly.... which is straight in to the beach
